Cogswell, W. W. Webb. Wrh: F. Osborn, Hugh Sheeks, Iledry CrltchSdd, Eleazor Pierce, A. T. uicsey, Joseph y. Fitts, W. V Weathtw, Jease M. Ganders, John II. Parka and Wra. Iladelson. The trial was concluded and the jury retired at 5 o'clock Monday eveniag and remained out until 21 o'clock p. m. yesterday when they reported 10 the court that they were unable to agree and were" discharged. The plaintiffs were represented by Judge M. S. Mavity and Judg John Baker, while the defendants were represented by Farrell & Noblitt, and Buskirfe & Megenity. A respectable number of veryrespectable Republicans met at the court house Saturday for the purpose of appointing delegates to the various conventions to be held. The convention was presided over by Gen. Win. T. Spicely with his usual ability and promptness. For the benefit of our numerous Republican patrons we publish elsewhere the procte'.iLlgs of the con ventlon, not withstanding it was oaly ordered by the convention that they be published ia the Republican an oversight that the gentlemanly Secretaries remedied by Inserting the name of the other county papers. Politically the Trustees elected Monday remain as bafore, there being five Democrats and five Republicans, leaving the balance of power upon all votes by thm with the Auditor. lie being a Democrat insures the election of a Democratic Superintendent as the successot of Mr. Noblitt. In Democratic townships the vote was light, while in Republican townships nearly thir entire forces were marshalled at the polls. Democrats wUl do well to shake off their apathy if they desire to retain the powtr that justly belongs to them. Throop's majority fur Trustee in Monday's election was 110, which is about the actual Republican majority in the township, Harrison's majority for Governor iu 1876 being 113. Mr. Throop received the votes of quite a number of Democrats, some of whom had participated in the convention that nominated Mr. McCracken and were in honor bound to support him. Had the Democrats voted solidly for Mr. McCracken his opponent's majority would not have exceeded 50. Some of them will perhaps wish they had. Judge A. J. Simpson having received nearly the unanimous vote of both parties Monday is now 01: of the Justices of Paoli township, or, we might more properly say, tha chief justice of Indiana. Judge Simpson has passed, his four score years, but is to-day hale and hearty and his Intellect seems as bright and vigorous as it did years ago when h battled at the bar with such legAl giants as Dewey, Thornton, Collins and others we might name. Judge Simpson has been ia active practice here far more than forty years. Robert W.
