If candidates want thc-ic names to go before the pccp'.e of the county, they will announce them in the Nf.ws. os it is the enly papwr of general circulation in the county, all statements to the contrary notwithstanding. Th Republican and Orleans Journal seem to have formed an alliance, offensive and defensive, against the News, and are howl ing for the county printing. Go in, gentlemen, and when you get it let us know it. On our outside pages will be found the usoal amount of late, important, general news of the day, and more thaw ten issues of the Orleans Journal contains, and none of it two weeks old, a? asserted by that paper. Brief communications containing matters of interest to our readers are respectfully solicited. Writers of long, prosy articles and of poetry are lequested to send them to the Orleans Journal, where they will find plenty of space. Mrs. E. A. Braxtan, of this place, sold to Dr. Leo Hazlcwood, of Vaieene, last week, an $575 Chii-kering piano. Wilson, of Newton Stewart, are the attorneys in attenditico at court this week, other than the members of the home bar. The Orleans Journal claims to hive a general cIrcd.tio i i:j th: county, and asserts that it is sent to every postollice in the county. Taking its cuo from the Republican tho Orleans Journal, whose editor has graduated in this howling for publie printing business, claims the legal advertising and asserts that the Supremo Courts of several States have made decisions declaring "patents" illegal mediums for legal advertising. Rev. W. W. Webb went to Gibson county last week to visit his father, who had been fatally injured by being thrown from his wagen in Evinsvilie, from tho effects of which injuries he died before his son reached him. We cjpy the following in relation to the accident from the Flvansville Cour. ier: Wm. Webb, father of Ravs. J. W. Webb and William Webb, cams to the city on Friday last with a load of wheat. On getting out of bis wagon at the mill, his horses started, and he was thrown to the ground, causing internal injuries, which, t the time, he did not seem to notice, baton his way home he w'as taKen wiU a severe chill, and when he reached his house he went immediately to bed, from which ha never aros, but continued to grow wors until death relieved him from his sufferings Thursday about noon. He was buried yesterday. Mr. Webb was about sixty years of age, and a farmer by occupation, though formerly he was a Methodist minister, and continued to preach occasionally of late years. Our citizens were startled Monday morning by the announcement that death had again invaded our peaceful town, claiming this time as his victim Mrs. E. E. McN'abb, eras she was commonly called, Mrs. Foster. . Deceased was' a woman of more than ordinary intellectual and executive ability, the accumulation of the large estate known as the Foster property being largely duo to her indomihu bla em rgy and careful management. Mrs. M. had been confined to her bed for soma months with that terrible enemy, cancer, and though her death was a surprise to many yet it w3 not unexpected. She leaves a husband ' and five children, together with a large circle of relatives and friends, to mourn her lca. We tender our heartfelt sympathies to tha family In their sad bereavement.
