The Woman's Christian Temperance Union of this place had an .unusually interesling meeting last Saturday afternoon. Only a few were present, yet the devotional exercises, of tho opening hour were marked by very great feeling and earnestness. Each one seemed to feel that she was indeed set as a watchman upon the walls of Zion, and must blow the trumpet and sound the alarm, lest the enemy strong drink carry away captive many of those whom the Lord has placed within the sound of our voices, and their blood be required at our hands. Though our town has not been permitted to see and to share in the great temperance revival, yet our hearts are made glad that God is raising up the fallen, comforting the broken hearted, and bringing light again to the eyes of thousands whose hopes had well nigh gone out in utter darkness. The half hour for business was filled with earnest discussions and useful information. One of the members read, in a very touching manner, that beautiful "Appeal for the Temperance Cause," writton by 2.1 rs. Frances D. Gage in 1S-S3. We would like to give that poem entire to the readers of the News. Another member read the extract given below from one of our leading religious papers. Let every woman who loves her home read it. Such Home Protection Suffrage will hardly need an advocate before the wives, mothers, daughters and sisters of our county.
