Pleasant church four railes northeast of this place last Sunday. We may be mistaken in our guess but from, what we've seen and heard wc venture the assertion that the coining fair will, be a success. Come and help make t so. Mrs. John Moore, an aged and highly esteemed resident of French Lick township died last week. We have not been furnished with any particulars concerning her illness or death. Delta has furnished us with another of his valued contributions. It w ill be found in another column under the heading "On a Flatboat." Our columns are always open to him. In our notice of the game of base ball between the Orleans and Paoli clubs last week it was stated that Mr. James Ferguson umpired the game. We intended to say Mr. James Spurgeon. Remember that you can compete for a premium at the fair this year without being compelled to pay the ten per cent entry fee heretofore charged. Come and bring your families and bring something for exhibition. George McPherson and Anna Brown, notice of w diose elopement we gave last week did not get married while absent. They returned and got license here and were married by Esquire Stinson Sunday evening. The fair will begin next Tuesday and continue until Saturday. We hope that every reader of the News will spend at least one day in visiting the fair and help ivake the occasion creditable to our county as well as to help got live society out of debt. Come everybody. A monster rattlesnake, measuring 5 feet and 6 inches in length, as largo around as a man's arm and with 8 rattles and a button was killed in French Lick township a few days since by a man named Wellington. Quill Goods past or had the stuffed skin in town Saturday. Mr. Edward P. Magner and Miss Jennie Bosley wero marred near Chambersburg Sunday evening by Itev. Mr. llichardson. The young, and happy couple have our best wishes for their future prosperity and happiness. May their pathway through life be strewn with roses and may their troubles nil be little ones. We also acknowledge tho receipt of some delicious cake. , The band boys returned from Cory don Sunday. They had a splendid time while absent and ex-pre-HS themselves as highly pleased with the generous and hospitable Jixanncr in which they were treated by the good citizens of "yo ar.eicat capitol."' Carter, will star't next Monday, on a visit to Texas, via Chicago, St. Louis and some of the Western 'Territories. Frank Specr started to Louisville Monday, got as far .13 Providence and came back. Look out for weddings now, "Sumuaer" will soon be gone. Ev. F. M. SymnM, Son and Jeruel Leonard, went about 12 miles west; Monday after Geological specimens. They broke down while there and had to walk home. And now comes the big elephant, but don't sell your, feather bed to get money to' take you to the show, as wa3 done here a few years ago. Wm. L. Reed and Henry A. Heed, have gone to Louisville to see Hayes, and purchase goods for their respective stores. Tho Odd Fellows' now boast of the finest Hall in the state. Alpha. The Corydon fair held last week was one of the best and most suc cessful fairs ever held In the county. There were over fifteen hundred entries and the grounds were daily crowded with peoplp. The receipts will pay the premiums in full and leave a handsome surplus in the Treasury. If tho citizens of Orange county will do their duty our coming fair will be just as suc cessful. Turn out everybody and lets have one rousing big fair. Bring something for exhibition, it will cost you nothing to compete for a premium. Elsewhere we publish n adver tisement of a circus that will ex hibit in our county on Thursday and Friday of next week. These exhibitions coming at the same time our fair will be in progress will, of course, work against the fair which is to be regretted.. It now, more than ever, behooves ev ery friend of the fair to go to work actively in its favor. Let everybody resolve to attend the fair and work for its interest 7. Sheriff Davis would rather parties whose lands are advertised at Sheriff's sale should pay for them, than that theyT should be pub lished free for them but the money don't come out of his pocket. Republican, Mr. Davis simply complies with the law which plainly says he shall publish his notices of sale in a paper having (excuse the italics) a general circulation in the. county. The News, in which he publishes them, has a general circulation in the county the Republican has not. Mr. Davis simply obeys the law but still the Republican squeals and will not be comforted. Tho citizens of Orleans and Paoli will be gratified to leara that Rev. W. W. Webb will remain with us another year. During the past year he has endeared himself to our citizens, and especially to the members of his church, by hiscourteous, gentlemanly nnd christian deportment and we all vote him the right man in the right place. Whil3 Brother Webb has not yet made a class leader out of us we believe he has conscientiously tried to do his duty. When we remind Odd Fellows, that lodge meetings, to be held next week, will be the thirteenth meetings of the term, they will taausrsiand to what we refer. The L, N. A. & C. R.
