March 4th. A decided improvement. ment The Legislature is still at work, the members vieing with each other in the number of bills pre sented. Representative Gossman, of Dubois, introduced nine Monday. No bills of importance have been passed. McDonald of General John whisky fraud fame, was unconditionally pardoned by President Grant Monday, and he was released from the Missouri penitentiary. President Grant's time is short, and if he has any more friends in the penitentiary he had better be making out their pardons. The Academy of Music, at Indianapolis, was entirely destroyed by fire Sunday night. The contents of the building were also consumed. The loss is estimated at $100,000. The origin of the fire is a mystery, Many of our readers, both Republicans and Democrats, will remember the beautiful building as that in which our State Conventions have been held for years. Old Zach to the Governor of Florida: "You must save Florida for Hayes by fair means or otherwise." Governor Stearns answered: "I will do it, but it will take soldiers and money." Old Zach replies that he has "seen the President and Secretary of War, and that they will be sent." And the Cincinnati Gazette says: "The Democrats are not making any capital out of the Florida telegrams." The balance of the radical press, although naturally garrulous, are "mum" on these Florida telegrams. A gret many people' seem to ! have erroneous views of the provisions of ! n compromise adjustment. PARRACIDE IN BLOOMINGTON William Pelley Shoots His Father After Missing His Stepmother. Missing BLOOMINGTON, IND. Jan, 26.--William Pelley, a man about 25 years of age, shot and dangerously wounded his father yesterday, a few miles in the country, east of here. The facts, as learned from Dr. Bryan, who was called to attend the wounded man, are about as follows; Wm. Pelley, who spends most of his time at Indianapolis, and it is said has sometimes driven a back there, has been at his father's hourse for a month or so out of employment. He is said to be extremely quarrelsome, and manifests a deep hatred toward his stepmother and her daughter. On the morning of the shooting he overheard a conversation between a younger brother and his father of a proposed trip to Indianapolis, when he asked the brother when they intended going to the city, The brother replied that they would go about next Tuesday. "You had better take them damned women along." referring to his stepmother and daughter, "or somebody might kill one of them while you're gone," said William. The younger brother replied that he had better go and hunt a job and let the women alone. This seemed to raise his temper and he said to his brother that he would "give him some of it," if he did not "shut up." He then turned and walked out of the room, passed through a room where the women were to a door leading out into the yard, then turned, pulled out a pistol and pointed it at his stepmother, who had her back to him. The daughter, seeing the act, suddenly jerked her mother to one side just as the pistol was discharged and the ball entered the wall. The old man hearing the report followed out into the yaid where William had stepped after he had fired, and began to expostulate with him, when he drew his pistol and shot the old man, the ball entering the chin, passing through the jawbone into the neck, where it can not be followed by a probe. William was laat heard of late last night, and from the direction he was going is supposed to be in Indianapolis. Most of our readers in the vicinity of Orleans and Paoli will remember a suit tried at the recent term of court vhrein Tims. D. Lindsey and Wm. H, Bexsiey, of Orleans, were plaintiffs and Win. B. Chisham was defendant, wherein the plaintiffs sued for a reward offered for the arrest of John T. Webb. On the trial of the cause there was considerable conflict in the testimony of the defendant and the plaintiffs and their witnesses, but by agreement of counsel, judgment was awarded -plaintiffs for $25. the plaintiffs to pay costs. After the trial one of the plaintiffs witnesses, Columbus Brown, filed an affidavit before Esquire Rice, of Orleans, charging Chisham with having committed perjury on said trial. The trial of the perjury case came off at Orleans yesterday and after the examination of numerous witnesses resulted in the acquittal of Mr. Chisham. I.ost River Hems. En. Our little village, situated five miles east of Paoli, is fast becoming popular. It now boasts of a postoffice, two dry goods stores, one doctor's office, one shoe shop, two blacksmith shops, and a wagon maker is expected in a few days. The inhabitants are peaceful and industrious, and there is not a loafer belonging to town. Health in this neighborhood is good at present.
