Arrest f Ctnittterfcitcrs! It has been for a long lime suspected our city was infested by a daring band ot counterfeiters, but such was the secrecy of their operations, that all efforts 10 detect them have heretofore been unsuc cessful. About two months since Jeff (. hissom, our efficient city Marshal employed a couple of men, Alex. Eagle and Jno. Wilder, bolh strangers here, to aid in ferreting them out. They succeeded without dhneultyiu becoming acquainted with ths leaders of the gang, end soon ingratiated themselves sufbeiendy in their confidence as to become fully acauainted with their cnerations. Their he a I quitters was at the house of Solomon Leslie, at Re nobis station, where ho keeps a thinking saloon. They are known to have had their possesion two plates, a tea on the North W estern Dank of Virginia, a one on tha State Dank of Indiana. Eagle, upon the pretexts! counterfeiting upon his v.vn hook, made a proposition to Leslie for the purchase i these plates, which was accepted and the tim - r,d place appointed for their d.di. k ,-y. !3y the arrangement, Leslie was to bring them to this city yesterday, hand them ovr. Upon the arrival of the Michigan c!ty cars, thus proceeded together to Junes. Hotel; and retired to a previously provided by Eaiila. Jeff Chissorn was concealed under ihe bd and overheard the entire conversation. I he affairs and operations ot the gang were discussed m & manner highly eui lying to Jeff, who aher listening to his satisfaction, carno out fn m his hiding place and made the arrest. By inlor mation previously furnished by Eagle, a number of perons in this city had been implicated, and end their arrest took place simultaneously with that of Leslie. Wrn. Lnderton, John tlaggerty, Walton Clark, and Marcus Dye are among the number, i he whole party were taken be fore the Mayor. Wilson & Lana appear iag for the defence, and Y 00 r hies for the Slate. The examination flicitsd some startling facts, very clearly indicating that a most stupendous Fysterrt of counterfeiting has for tcveral months been carried on in cur midst. Detore concluding ths examination was adjourned over until 'this morning. Lab Daily Journal, 25lh inst. THEMA UK EFS. PPvAIPaS CIlfCFTAIN OFFICII) Mxricft,i.o, June 22. CQTinnCTED EVEllY IYLEK.
