A Chart far Reading and Speaking, to be found on the second cover page of each number, giving a fall, but concise set of rules for reading and epeaking, accompanied by rhPtori-fil mrrris. to be used in the different articles in the book, for the purpose of denoting the pauses, inflections, and tones of the passages to which they are attached- There ia also a set of numbered gestures which apply to the selected speeches. This plan secures to this periodical every advantage of a standard reader, supplying fundamental principles which the teacher "may enlarge upon and illustrate. Second. A series of familiar essays on read) ins and speaking, written in such a style as shall attract the attention of youth. Third, Interesting article s in every department of art science, suclnas Fhiiosophy, Astronomy, Mechanics, Nam at History, Geosraphy. Travels, Biography, &e. Notices of New Dooks which have been written for the improvement of the young. Tenth. Numerous and beautiful engravings prepared for us by Jocelyn, every month. Every article, whatever may be its subject, will be arranged in short paragraphs for reading. The magazine may either supply the place ol other readers, or be used in connection with them. It is suggested to teachers wnose schools are so large thai each pupil can not have a copy, that twelve or more copies be obtained, and a class supplied with them; our ciuh price would make the expense but "Scents to each scholar for the year, or half of that amount for one volume of six months. Teachers are requested to use their efforts to introduce it into their own, and other schools. As it is intended for home, as well as school, instruction, it is hoped that it will find its way into hundred, and thousands of fam iJtea throughout our country ; os we have no doubt that members of any family would find it a pleasant and useful companion. Our terms, considering its else and character, make it the cheapest work of the kind ever published, and place it within the reach of aii classes. Our Contributors include eome of the beet writers for the young in the country, and no pains or expense will be spared to readier this work useful, instructive, and entertaining. Nothing will be admitted to its pages in any dearree sectarian or objectionable.
