Hri a?iD FOX THE MADISON DAII-T COfRIER. U The Te'ejjrapliic reports published iu the Txarter are mad up at 12, vi ., each day iu Ciucin udti and published t!ie same day iu Madison. The Courier by this arrangement gives the account of the swies in the Cincinnati market "4 hours in advance of any other paper distributed 'in the City of .M oi.-oti. Philadelphia, Oc.. 11A serious riot occurred here Iat evening. A Irge brick house frequented by blacks, in the 'irer part of the city, was burnt down, and also eonnumed other property surrounding it The Firemen came to nare the property, but were driven off by attacking parties of white from Moyamensing, as also were the police. Firearm were freely used by the rioters. Two persons 'were killed, and eleven wounded, some fatally. "Ne arresu could be made till this morning, when 1 the military were brought down. ' Gamble has a majority in the city and county. 'Democratic sheriff elected, and democratic county rctlymen and senators elected. The city is whig. Very disagreeable weather, and checked transactions. U" The Baptist Association met at Philadelphia, during the present week, and at one of its sittings passed the following resolution: ' Rrsolred, That we regard the practice of dancing and attendance upon other worldly amusements, as opposed to the spirit of the Gospel, and prejudicial to the growth of grace in the soul, and should therefore b habitually discountenanced by Christians in general, and Christian parents in particular. " The Association should define what it includes under "u-mldly amusements," as many parents wi!l be at a loss to know if they may allow their boys to shoot marbles, and their girls to dress baby dolls. Hints to Farmers and Millers. Professor Dick says, that the jooks of a single inspector in New York city, showed that in 1847 he inspected 218.C79 barrels of sour and musty flour. In his pinion, the loss on these was $'-250,000. Every year ttie total loss iu the United States, from moisture in wheat and flour, is estimated at from J3.000.000 to $5,000,000! To remedy this great il, the grain should be well ripened before harvesting, and well dried before being stored in a good dry granary. Negro Eloquence. A Boston dandy black -stepped into a provision store in that city, to buy Miorne potatoes, and before purchasing, he gave the ' lowing truly eloquent description of their nature: ?De tater ie inevitably bad, or iuwariably good. Dare is no mediocrity in de combination of de later. De exterior may indeed appear remarkably xe.plary and beauti.some while de interior is totaJ'.y negative; but, sir, if you wends de articles 'pea year own recommendation, knowing yeu to be a ma a of probability in all your translations, why, sir, without furder circumlocutions, I takes bushel " "Well, Fill, what have you got by that temi pf ranee society of youm?" "I hare got hit," said Bill, blantly, pulling at from hi pocket a haticfu.ll of silver "and I have got .'.! ," displaying a new coat, pantaloons, ikocts aud hat "which I never had belore.' illie questioner looked exceedingly foolish and walked on.
