The greatest surprise party of the season was made at Bentou Viekery's, on Saturday evening, February 10th, by his relatives and friends, in honor of bia birthday. At an early hour the partyassembled in large numbers, comprising both young and old. After many warm
congratulations were extended to Benton the party repaired to the dinning-room where they had prepared one of the finest sappers made up of oysters end other de licacies we ever beheld. About eight dock the first table of guests were made up, while one party was e;Uh'g the remaining portion of the large cowj amujed themselves in many ways appropriate to the company and oeca.-ion. In this style they continued until over one-hundred had banished hunger with the many good things spread upon the table. Benton extended his hospitality to all in a generous manner, and we are sure all enjoyed themselves excessively, the opinion
has prevailed with many that Benton was likely to become a confirmed bachelor, as he has passed that period in a man's age which goes far toward proving he has a heart invulnerable to the coquetteish intrigues of the fair sex, and impervious, to the darts of cupid's arrows. But notwithstanding all of those unfavorable condition of things. The young ladies invited him to take a part tn their play and by ovcrpc-rsuruion was forced to succumb, once in tht ir company they laid siege to his heart in all of the ways known in the art of captivating the unwary, with what effect we will leave you to judge by the remark made by an elderly lady. She declared that he looked to he 5 years younger after passing through the trying ordeal. Hoping his pathway through life may bestrewn with flagrant flowers, we leave his course to be decided l,y his o .vu calm judgement.

To call it a silver wedding dinner won't begin to do it justice; it was a roost magnificent affair, luxarously brilliant in all respects for which we again tender our most sincere thanks. L. W.
