Editor ItqmlKcan: Leaving old Hendricks, my n.V.ive home, for Kansas last fall, and floating westward with the tide of human brings rushing pell mell to secure themselves a home on the broad, rolling prairies of the new West and having traveled over different parts ot the State, I will endeavor, with your permission, to give an unbiased view of this much lauded State. One can no more treat of the topography, climate, etc., of the entire State of Kansas in a single letter than he could undertake to write its history 'in to short a space. The different parts of the State are as varie d in every w ay as is that of the Hoosier State, so I will confine myself to Southern, Southwestern and Western Kansas, as that is the portion that the poor man bss to look to now in securing hims f 8 c' p ho nc, t'et ' rn jut btirj v ' i , ove 1 ail f is r tol h I t 1 i 1 1 I f j tl t s t means stop t.'i.jse to lorute. t 1 e C( Jn tt 1 (ii I a 1 n ! , f rt y of t! s 1!, !' r llyws drill?, a J r '. And further, do not come to
Kansas unless you have a little means to ..arry you through the first year or two, as
there are loo many here now depending on oay labor to carry them through. There will not be a great amount of hiring labor among the farmcis of Western Kansas for
three or four years to come. J. II. Stuart Ashland, Kans., July 7, '85.

curse put on the first farmer, and that, I

since.
Cam was trie first tiller of the soil, and see what trouble he had. The ground was to bring forth thistles and thorns, and so it did, even unto the farmers 'round a' out the Gunnason country. And the curse takes other firms. When the is a good
