Franklin Daily Herald "TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER. I. 1885. RICH MEN'S DISHONESTY.

Tt is not true that embezzle ments, larcenies, defalcations and financial "irregularities" are the work of secure subordination On the contrary, it Is the wealthy or fairly well-off cashiejs, direc tors, and presidents who rob the banks; trust funds are stolen by men whose position in society has put them far above suspicion of such weakness, and railroad And other great corporations are despoiled by millionaires. A poor man has very little temptation to steal ten millions or one million. His needs and desires are so limited that such a sum has few attractions for him. He knows the possession of it would bo a burden, and would probably lead to his do tection and punishment. Dig reputation for honesty and trust worthiness is his capital, and ho would risk everything by one false step. Say his principles are no better nor his conscience more active than those of other men who are not tempted and do fall, yet the considerations here in named would hold him back from crime into which they mad ly rush. Ho, therefore, regards his chances of detection a small, and decides to take them, Furthermore, he relics on his wide acquaintance and influence to give him, if the worst should happen, u safe deliverance in the court or across the Oaindian border. PROVERBS. It is easier to tell a he than it is to catch a fish. A woman's bonnet must be orthodox, before her prayer-book is. Winter sets in when poverty comes. Principles, not pulpits, make a church. The knife that cuts a custard pie may olso cut a throat. The best fitting coat is one that is paid for. God makes the roses, and the devil puts the thorns on. Tho hand opens when the heart doe. The sculptures face on a gold coin may b beautiful, but neither tears nor smiles ever break its monotony. Hearts build religion, for brains to tear down.
