.T. W. Scales. ■ c Thomas Bramer and wife of Stanley, were here Sunday visiting relatibes and friends. James L. and Emma ShVpard visited the family of Joel A. Taylor in Warrick county, last Sunday. Prof. William Jordon left Tuesday to be at the opening of the fall term of the Oakland City college. < Mrs. J. H. Barrett returned from Petersburg Saturday where i she had been visiting her brother, Martin Fleener and family. James Hayden of Patoka township, was here a few days ago and contracted for the Overland Boy, a large saw mill and engine. A child of William and Alice Perrydied here Friday evening and was buried Saturday evening in Pleasanti'ville cemetery. Elder Mart Burch conducted the funeral services. The parents have the sympathy of friends in their sad affliction.
Company B and F, 91st Indiana, held their annual reunion last Friday at Comrade Jacob Tyring’s near here. There were forty-one soldiers present and a large number of friends. They all report a good time. Comrade Tyring and his good wife received the thanks of all present. The township advisory board met at the office of the trustee and organized by electing J. N. Lorton chairman, and Isaac Clark secretary, made the tax levy for 1899. Township, 15 cents; local tuition, 1-1; special school, 10; road, 10; bridges, 5; poor, *; total, 59 cents. They awarded the pauper practice to Dr. S. T. Teaford for #00. They fixed the salary pf the trustee not to exceed $300. They awarded contract for two small bridges and adjourned to meet on call of trustee. Iva Items. Elwood Trayler is on "the sick list. Mrs. Howe has been on the sick list, but is now improving. Mr.Norton and family visited friends at Ireland last Saturday. John Budd is having water works put in his elegant residence. John and Mrs. Budd were the guests of L. E. Trayler and wife Sunday. Misses Dora Scraper and Bertha Chappell visited friends in Iva Sunday last. Harley Trayler and George Lafollette are attending the institute this week. ?

James Ridge, Ostay Hayes and Lee Hollon attended the dance at E. Abell’s Tuesday night and report a good time. The friends and relatives of Mrs. J. P. Hayes met at her home Sunday and gave her a surprise, it being her 44th birthday. The Democrat undoubtedly occupies first place in the newspaper field of Pike county. Subscribe for it now, it will be a pleasure to you during the long winter evenings. Last Monday night the barn on the farm of Charles Edwards was burned. Cause unknown. George Ross, who lives oh Edwards’ place, had a couple of horses severely burned. 'Samuel Pipes and Miss Daisy Davenport xjere married Saturday by Rev. W. J. Ridge. They are well known in this community, and we with their many friends wish them a long and happy lift.
Ralph Morton and Effle Chesser were married at the home of the bride near this place. The bride is the daughter of Rev. W. M. Chesser and is an complished young lady. We join with their many friends'in wishing them happiness. On Thursday morning as Joseph Jones went to work he drove his team off a steep bank into a pond on the farm of J. P, Hayes, and iell out of the wagon head foremost. Had not assistance been near he would have been drowned. Algiers Items. Wash Whaley has a bran new baby at his home. Miss Pearl Payne is clerking for Bev Radcliff. Subscribe for the Democrat. It is the best paper in the county. Will Brenton and wife made a business trip to Washington last Monday. The new iron bridge across Flat creek, near John Chew’s, is completed. Henry Stewart and wife made a business trip to Washington last Monday. Quite a numl>er of the friends and relatives gathered at the home of P. C. Abbott last Sunday to spend the day with him and his family as they are going \o move to Nebraska soon.

The rain of [last Friday afternoon was a pleasant caller to the people of this locality. George Bell «u»l Alonzo Willis with their familtfes were the guests of Ellis Scraper Sunday. Misses Eva W illis and Bessie Chew were the guests of Edward Barnett and wife Monday. L.'E. Grim and wife of Petersburg, were the guests of Pat Murphy and wife^Sunday evening. John Anderson, the man injured in the collapse of an old school house a few weeks ago, is improving. Ralph Mortdn, son of Weslev Morton, and Miss Ettie Chesser of Noxid, were married last Friday night. The Cumberland telephone company will put in a switch board at this place soon. Alvin Travler, Sam Hobson, Zack Tate, Charles Pipes, William Nelson and A. J. Abbott will take phones. j The following teachers from this place are attending the institute at Petersburg this week: J, Z. Bell, R. V. Willis, Charles Willis, D. W. Bell, B. H. Osgatholrp, G. W. Bell and Alias Lizzie Barnett. Samuel Pipes, a substantial young farmer of Nokid, andMiss Daisy Davenport of this place,daughter ofFrank Davenport, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony at the residence Rev. W. J. Ridge ot Noxid, last Saturday night. A general good time was had by all present. Ice cream and cake being served.

Wiggs is just recovering from quite a spell of sickness. The school at this place will begin October 2nd, with John L. Davis as ?. teacher. Thomas Hurt and G. W. Ashby have moved their families back from the saw mill to this burg. | Mrs. Carrie Agee of Stendal, is visiting the family of her brother, Newton E. Farmer,'this week. John M. Wiggs, who has been in Tennessee for the past three years, returned home a few weeks ago. Mrs. Mary F. Lemasters spent last week with her mother iu Princeton, and incidentjally took in the fair. The camp (meeting at Oakland City is creating more excitement than the fair did among our young people. With corn worth 20 cents and wheat 60 cents, the farmers have lots of confidence, but not much prosperity. ’Rah for Bryan in 1900. x Charles Carlisle has moved his saw mill on his. farm near here, and Mill cut lumber to build a barn to replace the one which was burned a few weeks since.
