Commissioners’ Court. The following business was tranasacled by the board during the December term: Clarence A. Holcomb was appointed at* torney at $150 per year. The Orphans' home association made report showing expenses to the amount of $46442; balance on hand $627.21. Report aooepted. The stationery contract was let to the Keller Printing company and S. Thompson for $500. Liquor licenses were granted to W. S. Mitchell, J. K. Heath, Shea and Niernan, Eri Dimic and James W. Kelly. A franchise was granted to the Farmers’ telephone company to erect their lines along the public highways of the county. S. H. Stuckey was allowed one hundred dollars damages to land aloug White river. The proposition of S. G. Davenport to take the appellate court reports was ac
oepted. Dr. I)ayid DeTar of Winslow, was selected as secretary of the county board of health. The total allowances for the session amounted to $5,712.23. Arthur Wnitehead et al. road viewers’ report; report accepted and road ordered opened. In the matter of road petition of W. T. Mason et al, viewers made report which was accepted and further proceedings dismissed. In the matter of the road petition of J. W. Nelson et al, Felix Miller, Jackson Risley and Fred Caldemeyer were appointed viewers. From an Old Soldier. Knox, Ind., Jan. 14. 1897. Leonard Farmer and wife paid P. H. Beatty and wife a visit on Sunday last. Edward Farris paid a visit to C. E. Dayton over Sunday. Stephen Cooper and P. H. Beatty went to Evansville last Thursday and bought a supply of winter goods. While there Mr. Beatty bought a fine gold watch for his wife. Miss Gertie Farmer of Spurgeon, visited her sister, Miss Ida Farmer,of near Arthur, on Monday last. Rev. Riley Barrett, pastor of Mt. Zion, is carrying on a series of meetings with good success with about twelve conversions up to the present date. Sunday school was organized at Mt. Zion two weeks ago last Sunday, with Joseph W, Wiggs as superintendent; Miss Mary Wiggs, secretary; Miss Lula H ouch ins, treasurer; C. E. Dayton, librarian, and S. B. Harper as sexton. All are invited to attend and make it a grand success. Marion Thompson has finished his new residence in Arthur and moved into it.
