THE APPORTIONMENT NiW LAW ENACTED BY THE INDIANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY. ■m Iks Dltirlcli Ars Arr»D|*d, *r Willi Iks rigttrM on Which the Art 1* HmmI-VM* In Iks Huum—Tb« Uw of liMta. Tii« tiin|> given above will show at a glance the arrangement of Indiana counties for senatorial and representative apportionment The bill wan the work of a special committee appointed by a joint caucus of the Republican members of th« general assembly. This committee was composed of Senators Hawkins, Hogato and Houghton and Kofireecutativea Babcock, Smith and Lit i let tin. to whom had been referred all the lulls introduced on the subject. It was at a caucus held ou the night of Feb i that these gentlemen reported the result of their labors, which was adopted after a loug session. Some opposition was mail© to the measure, particularly by representatives from Lagrange and Steuben counties, and fur some d».y* it was doubted whether the constitutional majority could be secured for its passage in the house. This test came on Wednesday, Feb. 10, after the caucus had the night previous determined to udhere to the bill as at first offered. No rot© in the bouse hud been watched with u» greet iutenet up to the time the 1 iw Was put ud its passage, and it was to avoid an exciting scene that the roil wus called. Mr. Butler was the ouly Republican who voted against it. defending his action on the ground that it was unsatisfactory to his constituents and that his first duty '••■vs to them. The vote was *>i to 4?, affording oue more than the necessary majority. In the senate the hill had smooth sailing when it came to a vote, Republicans voting solidly for and Democrats against tL The figures given belew show the vote iu the distrtofs as now srrauged in the election of 18B5, the excess or deficit over the unit (which is U.&40 for senator and «,S7U for rejireseutative) and the natty to which the difference is credited or charged:
