THE M. E. REVIVAL. Rev. J. B. Roller, the evangelist, commenced a series of revival meetings at the M. E. church Sunday night, lie is a splendid speaker and an enthusiastic worker, and his sermons from night to night have been listened to very closely by his hearers. Rev. Anderson, pastor of the church, conducts the song service. The meetings will be continued for sometime yet and the people of Petersburg should attend even- night. Rev. Hale of Winslow, and Rev. Esher of Otweli are assisting in : the work this week. The meetings promises to do muck good in Petersburg for the people. ATTENTION S. S. WORKERS. Pike county Sunday School Union will meet at Traylor chapel Jefferson township. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 28 and 29, 1896. Programs have been printed and distributed throughout the county and adjoining counties. Every Sunday school and church worker should come and encourage the grand work if by no more than your presence that will encourage the work. A very large attendance is expec ted. Saturday afternoon someone discovered that an attempt had been made to saw down the Pike county wind mill whieh stands in the court house square, and was placed there for the purpose of pumping water into the jail aid sheriffs residence though it has failed to properly do its work. Much comment has been made of late in regard do the .wind mill anil its terrib^ squeaking, and some unknown person undertook possibly the job of stopping the squeak Such vandalism should be Investigated very closely tad the persons guilt v of the work punished. The derrick legs were almost if not entirely sawed off and had the wind mill blown over during the high winds of Saturday some person might hare been seriously injured or killed. The derrick was fixed up Saturday evening. Strap iron was placed on each side of the legs and securely bolted together and the derrick made as safe as eTer. Col. W. B. It was an interesting meeting to all present. It is said that a good beginning secures the best success. AUGUSTA ITEMS. Fine weather ami farmers very busy. W. C. Lawrence was at Yelpen Momlay on business. Charles Ferguson cut his foot vejry severely last Momlay. Abe Corn is suffering from a severe straiued leg caused by a fall several days ago. The Cabel coal company are pushing their drilling for gas near the Hartwell mines. Work at the Hartwell mines seems to be progressing fairly well under the new bosses. There is as fine prospect for fruit in this part of the county as has been seen for many years. - j. Several of Lockhart’s loyal democrats attended the meeting at Winslow Saturday. All report a very enthusiastic meetiug. Miss Eva Beach returned last Sunday from the county. Nicholas Collins and Moritz Riesenbeck attended the democratic meeting at Winslow, last Saturday and report a splendid meeting. Our people are very raitch pleased with the action of the committee in endorsing the eaudidacy of Judge Ely for another term on the bench. He has many f riemla here in all political parties that will lie glad of the opportunity of voting for him at the November election. EXCURSION TO MfLLTOWN. The Red Men of Priueeton have arranged an excusion for Friday, May 1st. over the Air Cine to Milltewn. Train will leave; Oakland City 7:40 a. m., Winslow 8.-00 st. m. and Huntingburg 8:40, a. m., arriving at Mill town at 10:20 a: m„ returning leave Milltowu at 5:30 p. m. The fare for the i^unid trip is 75 cents. This will be the drift excursion of the season and is an excellent opportunity to have an enjoyable railroad ride and spend the day in one of the grandest parks in Southern Indiana. Persons desiring to visit Marengo Cave, one of’ the grandest natural wonders on the 'outinent, can leave the train at Marengo going, and return with the train in the evoning.
