Orange Blossoms. At the home of the bride, the marriage of Mr. Elmer Davidson and Miss Ruth McCoy was solemnized by |he Rev. liartsock of Monroe Ci»y, at five o’clock Sunday afternoon. The wedding was a quiet a{lair. only the Immediate relatives being present. The bride is the handsome daughter of Hou. James S. McCoy. Her rare accomplishments connected with a sweet and amiable disposition has won for her a host of friends aud piade her one pf our most popular society young ladies. The groom is a son of the late James K. Davidson pf Union. He is bright, euergetic and inoral. His pleasant sooial disposition has made hina very favorably hnown among our people. Notwithstanding the small number of guests present the bride and groom were the recipients ot many handsome and valuable presents. Mr. and Mrs. Davidson tyill at once move to the large stock farm of Mr. McCoy in Knox couuty. We extend pur hearty congratulations to the happy couple and predict for them a long, prosperous and happy matrimonial life. Pensions Granted. The town board met in regular session Thursday night. The petition of tlie fire company to serve for nothing was not considered*. An ordinance was presented to prohibit drinking., on the streets and alleys, which was; voted down. Action was taken toward organizing a new fite company. I Claims to the amount ot $161.71 were allowed. The bill of the electric light company was reduced from $187.50 to $8213. J. W. Wilson, town attorney, stated that he would leave Petersburg in a short time and he was given authority to secure a man in his place. The marshal's salary was fixed at $40 per month. One of the best games of ball play ed here this season was that between Oatsville and’ Petersburg last Saturday in which the former club was shut out by a score of 3 to 0. Reuss and Welch were the opposing pitchers and each done splendid work. There were but few errors in the game. Monday the same clubs played at Oatsville, when Petersburg was defeated by a score of 15 to 9. Blair and Abridge pitched tor Petersburg aud Welch tor Oatsville. The gas well at the corner of Main and Seventh streets is still spouting gas at intervals. The gas is becoming stronger each day, and if the water was cased off it would burn all the time. There is no question whatever but what a strong flow of gas could be secured if proper explorationwere made for it, but it seems that the men-ot means are aft-kid to risk a few dollars in making the test. If there is gas here it should be secured Wake up.
The total allowances made by the county commissioners at their September term amounted to $4,852.68. The cash in the county treasury hav - ing become exhausted by the heavy expenditures during the past year, the majority ot the orders issued will be floated. The couuty commissioners receive:! bids for an irou bridge last week. There were four bidders, and the prices ranged from $12.12 to $13 per foot. All bids were rejected and the Washington bridge and supply company given the contract at $11.75 pe r foot. G. T. Kime and family are nt Princeton this wae^ attending the fair.
