W. A. Oliphant Judge Ely is si Jasper holding court the term opening on Monday last and continuing for five weeks. This is the judge’s first term of court and The Democrat wishes him a great future fs a jurist. The two licensed saloons of Peters* burg have changed their windows to clear glass apd otherwise changed the appearance of their places to obey the provisions of the Nicholson law. The law allows no card-playing or games of any kind in the saloon. Squire Thurman held court Monday last. Two cases were filed in his court for trial. Dopk Marsee was fined $3.Q0 for assault and battery on Svlvester Hyden, apd Hyden was fined I2.Q0 for assault and battery on Marsee. The former stayed his fine, while the latter is laving his out in jail. The fight occurred late Saturday night. All Free.
