County Superintendent Blaize held a teacher’s examination at Winslow last Saturday. There were 103 applicants tor license, the largest number during Mr. Blaize’s term of office. Mrs. Gus Frank and. son Isaac will leave for Germany the latter part of this month, sailing froifi New York on the 28th. The Democrat wishes for them a sate voyage to and from the old home. The citizens of Rockport have organized a club for the purpose of advertising tho town. This is a splendid move and might well be done in this town with great profit to the community at large.
Albert Masters died at bis home in Clay township last Thursday and was buried the day following at the Masters cemetery. He was 65 years old. The funeral services were conducted by the G. A. R. post of this place of which he was a member. John B. Bilderback, the well-known school teacher of Lockhart township, left for Lebanon, Ohio, last week where he will attend college for the comiug year. He is one of the succe^ful teachers of the county and a firstclass young man. Thb Democrat wishes him success in his studies. For sometime past Mrs. McGowan, who lives on East Main street has been noticing a disappearance of Chickens, and on last Friday night concluded to set a trap for the chi'Sken-thieff. The trap was successful and revealed a fine fat coon as the thief. Neighbors were summoned and the coon dispatched. The Washington Democrat states! that owing to the incompetency of the last legislature officers are yet unable to discover whether or not they will get any salary for the next four years. Since most, of these officers are republicans of course the little matter ot compensation will not make any difference to them. They were elected as patriots aud won’t mind living up to their principles.

Lizzie Sorgius of Jefferson township, died very suddenly last Saturday night of heart trouble. She was aged 53 years. The funeral took j place Monday afternoon and burial j at the McClure cemetery. She was the widow of the late Jacob Sorgius, who died several months ago. John H. Viehe, the .popular grocer of Petersburg, was yf dressed up in his best Monday morning. Besides that he was all smues and when ever anyone entered thefstore he proceeded to hand them a fine Havana. Our reporter noticed theWeat change in John’s appearance inquired the canse and was inforraed that the little one was called Lucile and will be five days old this morning.
Oar readers will see by today’s paper that the law firm fo Ely & Davenport has been dissolved owing to the appointment of Hon. E. A. Ely as judge of this circuit. Mr. Davenport has been in the practice with Judge Ely for the last seven years, and will continue to practice law, with his office at the same place as that used by the late firm, upstairs over Adams’ drug store. Last Saturday while coming to town the horse which J. T. Rumble, of Madison township, was driving become scared and ran away and upset the buggy. Miss Robling was in company with Mr. Rumble, and both were thrown violently to the ground. Miss Robling sustained a fracture of the bone of the left arm above the wrist. Mr. Rumble escaped injury save a few bruises. Dra. Byers and Kime reduced the fracture.

Fettinger, superintendent of the county asylum, met with a serious accident last Tuesday. The team which«jie was driving ran away and he was thrown from the wagon

It was supposed at first that the skull was fractured, but Dr. Liuk ot this city was called and gave it as his opinion that the injury consisted Qf concussion of the braip. Mr. Fettinger is still in a critical condition. The pther occupants of the wagon were partly shaken up. The accident occurred at Winslow.
