What has become of the much talked of grand stand that was to have been erected at the shop grounds. Let us have a ball park next season by all means. There is little pleasure in witnessing a game standing in the burning sun for several hours. If Petersburg with 2.000 inhabitants can afford a park, this town with a population of 9,000 and more ball cranks to the square yard, than any two towns of equal size, certainly ought to support one. In fact it would be a paying investment for some qae.— Washington Democrat,

W. S. Ken worthy, of Iowa, an exofficial of the lower branch of congress who was Jet out when that branch came under the control. of democrats, spoke here last Tuesday evebing at the court house. Thegentleman is somewhat at variance with his party and demauds that a high duty be placed on articles that are not produced in this country. The statement was made as a driye at tho democratic party which placed' several articles on the free list. He also denounced the repeal pi the Force election bil)% having forgot that Indiana has the peerless ballot law of all states. lie also made the statement that Indiana furnished only a tew democrats who were in the late civil war, when statistics show that there were more detpocrats in the service from this state than were republicans. During the war period Indiana went republican, but after, that period the state went democratic, which is also proof that more democrats were in ' the service titan republicans. As a “blobdy shirt’ llim.ter, the gentleman is a dandy and is.fully up to the average republican campaign stumper. There is one thing that the gentleman failed to touch and .that was the new tariff !a,w and the income tax law. A great many republicans were not particularly, taken up with the speech and admit that it was » very weak article. Petersburg citizens should wake up to the fact that factories are needed to make the town boom. With several small factories in operation things would have the appearance of being lively and besides that would be a source .of revenue to the idle men during the winter months.
