At the residence of Hon. Jasper JL Davidsou, near Union, Dr. Halstead, of Evansville, united in marriage Frank Lockwood and Miss Florence Davidson. The presents to the bride were many anu valuable.; The Democrat extends congratulations to the ntAvly married people. Tuesd&y night the restaurant ot H. Starkey, at Velpen, was robbed of $50 and the house set on fire. Starkey was sleeping in the restaurant and awoke in the night almost suffocated with smoke or chloroform it is not known which, and managed to run into the street and fell insensible. He is in a critical condition. Help arrived in time to save the house front destruction. It is not known who the robbers were, but ail day Tuesday two tramps were around town, whose conduct attracted attention.

She has not entirely recovered from her recent illness. Peter Drof has just received a car load of lime, also a car load of cement. He sells coal oil and gasoline and buys all kind of jfonk. Call and see him for prices. 14-4 ifcd Reuss, of Louisa, Kentucky, is at home for a few weeks taking a much needed rest.- He has charge of the mechanical department of the Big Sandy News, and is a iirstclass workman. A band of colored jubilee singers have been engaged by the managers of the fair. Free concerts will be given each day. They are regular old plantation singers of the old school. The Democrat will issue no fair daily during the fair week as was anticipated. There is glory in running a daily but the financial part of the affair looked very slim. So there will* be no daily at least from this

Baths at any time during day or night. Dr. Joseph Price, of Philadelphia, and Dr. Murtry, of Louisville, were summoned here and done an abdominal section on the wife of Dr. W. H. Link Tuesday morning. The operation was a very successful one. Mrs. Link is much better at the time of going to press and her recovery is very encouraging. Mil* Young who is employed by the Dering Bros. ain cutting Umber in Clay township, met with a serious accident Wednesday afternoon. A limb fell from a tree which he was felling and with the result of breaking a leg and seriously injuring his back. He was immediately taken to the residence of Mrs. John Hoover, near by, and medical aid summoned. He is in a precarious condition, but the attending physician has hopes of his recovory. The Petersburg ball team went 1o Jasper last Sunday to play a game of ball. Well they didn’t get well started into the game uutil they came to t|ie conclusion that fair treatment from the umpire, ball tossers and citizens was out of the question and loft the field. This is not the first that ball clubs from this city have received such 'realment from the people of Jaspfrr, and the same stands good xyijh every team that has visited that town. Thb Jasper club was cordially treated while in this city sometime ago and the favors were poorly returned.
