James Nance and w ife were tbe guests of Luke Young last Sunday Mrs. Emery Willis is laying dangerously ill with the malarial fever. Miss Belle Willis, of Bumble, was the guest of Mrs. Charley Gray last week. Turqpr Willis and wite, of Bumble, were visiting relatives at this place last week. James Bottoms, of Ayreshire, was visiting relatives near this place last Sunday. Miss Melisa Chappell or this place is teaching school near Pleasant Bulge this winter. Amanda Holland and little daughter were visiting the family of Lewis Beck last week. B F. English, a prosperous young school teacher of this place is visitiug friends in White river bottom this week. Len Chambers has returned from Jasper where has been working for Parson's heading factory. 6 The champion sportsman of Velpen is W. 11 Lewis. He killed seventeen squirrels last Thursday. Velpen is happy, while her neighbors are quarreling about who is going to teach their school. We have secured an excellent teacher, P. Herders. Cicero Fettinger and Hiram Hawkins have got a patent on new wagon making. They are uow making a water tank to run by steam. A week ago last Saturday while Ralph Marses and Harry Coon rad were returning home from the Uuntingburg fair they stopped at the eouuty infirmary. The boys soemed to get very much excited at a crazy woman who is at that place, and started to run when the woman started alter them. To say that they run does not express it. 1’hev ran around several houses and were nearly frightened oat of a years growth. They escaped. Elizabeth Hawkins visited fumble last weeh. Suotgcx.

Robert Russell says it is a fine little girl, hence the broad smile ot pleasure he has been wearing for several days. William Kays is a happy man. Almost any man would be happy over the advent of a sweet little girl at his house. Pied, Ludena, wife of William Davis, last Saturday morning of typhoid fever after an illness of several months. Robert Thacker and wife, of Hazelton, are visiting John Wilhelm. The case of Wm. McCormick against Jake Levy for provoke is set for next Monday. The Baptists will begin a protracted meeting at Traylor church Saturday eveuing. The Otwell school will begin next Mondav with Jonn Chaille and Miss Lizzie DeMott at the wheel. The funeral sermon of Mrs Emetine Bruner will lie preached at Algiers on Sunday, October 15, by Rev. J. D Jeffreys. On last Saturday a birthday supper was given at the residence ol W. L. Garland's, this being his fortv-hfth. His relatives and friends came in with their baskets well filled with eatables ot the very best. Alter supper the band boys favored us with some very fine music and all seemed to enjoy themselves. At 11 o'clock all adjourned to their homes. ) On last Monday evening William McCormick and Jake Levy had a few words. McCormick became enraged and used brick bats pretty freely Mr. Levy was hit three or four times, he shielding his head with his hands. An ugly gash was cut on his finger. McCormick visited Squire Edmundeon and invested $S.i5. Pretty dear brick throwing, Quite a number of the M, E. members met at the parsonage on the dav of Rev Jeffreys return with their baskets .veil filled kwith everything that was good, to give himself ami wife a welcome supper. On their return at 5 o'clock everything was in readiness and the minister and members seated themselves around a large table furnished with eatables second to none. Ail seemed to enjoy themselves. After supper Mrs. Jtfferv entertained the company with some choice musical selections. John Traylor and daughter have returned from Roekpo^t where they have been visiting. Drift. Ho mer Items. Lee preached at this point last Sunday. Miss Ada Whitehead opened school at Littles yesterday. J. O. Miley and lady called on friends in Winslow Sunday. R. L Mosby is building an addition to his residence on depot street Jasper Burchfield, of Oakland City, ha^ been the guest of Mrs. J, W. Clifford this week. Amos Braden and wife left tor Leavenworth to visit relatives and friends last week. Mr. Rech, the photographer, is doing some very tine work for several at this point.

Milev, with an enrollment of 84 pupils and bids fair to be tbe best school ever taught in this place it being the third year fot these teachers, quite a good work may be done. A few daVs after their departure the proprietor discovered that they had left a bundle, and set it to one side out of the Way. Later on a young man happened to be sitting near the bundle and discovered something •sticking out :of it, and pulled it put. Mr. Justice "‘immediatly took the ticket to J aides Hurt, who recognized it as being one which had been stolen from Hosmer station. Possibly the editor in his partisan, blindness would have the public believe that some democratic veteran or a widow of a soldier who had trainedwith the democrats, was an applicant for a pension.
