The highway robbery of a short time s'hfce has done one thing, and that is, that it has made the fact known that the shade trees along the streets should trimmed up fifteen to twenty feet. As ii is now there are several places along the principal residence streets where the shade is so deuse there is total darkness, just such a place as the foot- pad can get in his work without being identified. The city council should pass an ordinance to the effect that the trees be trimmed to a reasonable height. There was much excitement on our streets Tuesdav afternoon when the news reached here that a horrible murder had been' committed near Glendale; Daviess county. The previous night some unknown persons entered the residence of a farmer, Denson Wratten, killing him, ids mother, wife and two children, one little girl who was also assaulted was still alive at last accounts. When found five were cold in death. The murders were committed with hatchets ; the victims being horribly mutilated about the heads. The elder Mrs. Wratten was horribly butchered up, and besides several gashes on the head one hand was cut off at the wrist, while the other arm was broken in several places. The motive for the crime was probably money, as it was geuerallv supposed that the old lady had considerable money by her,, having drawn a widow's pension tor a number of years, and but recently withdrawing a largo sum of money from a bank. There was not the slightest clew, save the footprints of three persons in the highway. Excitement runs high and if the parties are caught Judge Lynch will immediately open court and order a rope be thro wn over the limb of a tree and the immediate discharge of the murderers. Bloodhounds are now ou the trail. i
