Spurgeon Items. Harvest is almost here. Our farmers are busy planting corn. Miss Ida Lemasters has gone to McGary. John MeClary and family spent Sunday here* A. H Oxby, one of our retired merchants has gone to farming. Mrs J. N. Lorton spent Saturday and Sunday in Augusta. MOnroe Ferguson has gone to Posey county to work on TV. L. Fleener’s farm. Samuel Julian, our boss carpenter, has completed William Laugiord’s residence. James Conner died Friday evening after a long spell of sickness. We regret, his death very much. ' * Remember the ice cream festival two weeks from next Saturday. It will be giv en by E. W. Ferguson and John Shepaid There was some “scrapping” here the other night between some country boys. It is a shame that such is allowed in a quiet little city like ours. This is another proof that we should incorporate. Don’t foYget to come and spend the 4th of next month with us. IVe are going to be “in it.” 'I’he picnic will be in Tyring’s beautiful grove one-half mile south ottown. Come and spend the day with us and you will be highly entertained by our citizens and neighbors. Otwell Doings. The farmers are hard at work. John L. Braden went to Jasper lastTuesday on business. Last Sunday was children’s day at the Lemmons church. Harry Fleming, of Petersburg, was iu our town last Tuesday. OtweH has given up the idea of celebrating on the fourth of July. The people of Otwell are making arrangements to burn brick soon. Andrew Drybrough and Thomas Kelly were in our town last Saturday ou business. Miss Carrie Seanland went to Washington last Saturday where she willremain for a few days. 1 Miss Anna Haskins and Miss Carrie Seanland were at Petersburg last Friday on business. Perry Chappell, of Algiers, passed through here last Tuesday enroute for Sulphur Springs. Rev. John D. Jeffry went to Chicago last Monday to see the many wonders. He will return Friday. Louis E. Traylor filed his bond as postmaster at Long Branch last Tuesday. The name given is lva. Harley Craig has returned from French Lick. He thinks that be has been benefitled by his stay there. John Ayers, ot Algiers, is here at work on the race track fixing it for horse training purposes. He has several to train. Rev. Marion Davis, of Davis county, preached at Traylor Union last Sunday at 10:30. At 2 o’clock Rev J. W. Goodwin delivered an address to a crowded house. Miss Anna Haskins had over sixteen dollars in money and a small sacbel taken from the millinery shop last Sunday night. Somebody had better look a leetle out. You are spotted and if you will bring it back all will be right, but if not it will be at your own risk.

Bumble Items. Albert Brewster has moved from Winp. low to this place and engaged in the real estate business. There was an exhibition a t this place last Friday and Saturday evenings. E. F, Bumble went to Oakland city, Tuesday. There will be an ice cream festival a| this place Saturday evening, June 2-1 th. Rev. William Sturgeon, of Buffalovllle, will hold services here next Saturday evening. William Lust, and family, of Hosmer, visited with George W. Barrett last Sunday. Lewis Rumble has moved back to his old home and is now better contented with life. The crops are looking very well in this vicinity. ■ The Democrat is read with much interest by the people ot this neighborhood. It gives the news and should be taken by every family in Pike county. , Wheat has bpen selling at 51 cents during the past week. Com is sell-, ing at retail at 45 ccdts.
