A prominent physician of Petersburg, said the other day that he would donate his services freo to the orhplus’ home. This is the right spirit to show. Never let the good ladies get too far ahead in doing a charitable act for the poor and unfortunate cliildien. If ruoro of our citizens would show tills spirit Petersburg would be away ahead of her neighboring towns iu more ways than one. The people as a rule in Peters burg always take care of the unfortunate. The aid societies of the churches and lodges look* very closely to the needs of tho poor during the winter months. In a conversation with a citizen of Petersburg, Monday, he advanced the idea of more manufactories and the way in which to secure them. He travels a great deal and lias an opportunity of talking to various business men who have helped to push their own towns. He said there was no hetter location in the country for a cabinet manufactory than in Petersburg as fuel and timber is pleiitv aml cheap. To put in a plant of the kind would require about #12,600, leaving enough capital to manufacture on. Such a manufactory would employ from fifty to sixty hands the first year and increase in number according to the sales made. A factory of this kind would mannfacinre all kinds of business house furniture including show and wall eases, desks ilturo. Why uot talk up the subject a little.

PETERSBURG, 1SD., AUG. 12, 1SW. We the undersigned far mere of Rke county have always been prejudiced against live fencing of any kind. There has been much said in regal'd to the hedge fences being introduced by the Pike County Hedge Pence Co. We decided to go and see for ourselves this much talker) offence. Aud we-wish now for the benefit of our farmers and of the company who is introducing this fence to say that we 9aw the fence trimmed and un. trimmed and saw the men trimming it aud we have no hesitancy in saying we are satis-fied-one man cau easily trim one mile in a day, and do the work well; aud that when it is trimmed it far excels any of our common fences; that everything that has been said in Its favor is positively true, being the best and handsomest fences we ever saw,in every respect. Though we were bitterly opposed to hedging before we examined this fence we are now strong in its tavor and we have bought it for our farms, aud are ready to be lieve and back anything Mr. McElderry may sav in its favor, and we feel that every farmer ought to promote the enterprise as it is to the interest of every farmer. We had a, pleasant trip and saw many different lines of teneing and feel justified in recommending this fence to our farmers, and that they need have no hesitauoy in taking hold or this, fence and placing it on their farms as an improvement and ornament to their tarots as. well as an excellent fence. We also reel jusfefed in recommending the oompany’s agent, Mr. W. E. McElderry. as being perfectly rf: >le as well as the excellent company he represents and houe'that the farmers will read this carelully ahd not pass it over as idle talk as we mean what we sav.
