Vinslow tiie Scene of An other Cutting Scrapei Frightful Affair in Which Three Men are eriously Bat—Two of the Victims may Die at Any Moment. ■ill Account of the fllclee as Gathered by the Democrcat Heporter. Last Saturday about 5 o’clock al Vinslow occurred one ot the worst iols and cutting affray* the idle burg lias ever known. Winslow i nine uiiiee south ol' this city, and vliile It is not the lirst time that scious affrays of this kind has liapleued, this one seems to cap the clinax in cases of brutality. The facts of the racket arc simply he following: A miner by the lame ot Barnes assaulted a young ady by the name ot lteed on the lark grounds, which lie about quarter of a mile from the village, vi»o reported the facts to her father tid brothers who Immediately made earch for the miscreant and recognising him looked for the officials ot hat locality, but not finding them ailed Sheriff Btilwell, who immodilely instituted search tor Barnes, lo was finally located in McCoy’s aluou, and the sheriff' told him that io was wanted. He immediately bowed light, amt made a desperate Hurt to escape from Sheriff’ Slilwell. V.bout this time a number ot miners ante and demanded ttie release of tames, but the sheriff flatly retused. Vt this juncture host.lilies comiicuccd and knives, razors, pistols, liiliard cues, beer bottles and other nstntmenis of war filled the air. jeycral aliempis were made to down sheriff Sul well, who was at the lime n llie middle of the saloon. The heriff by a* great effort saved hltnelf from injury and got outside with iarnes. 'J’iio rest of the men wore .till In the saloon fighting. Men verc knocked right and left while a talf dozen or more were seriously
lilt. When the smoke of battle hail leared away it was found that Bart md Pete Stinson, brothers, and Levi teed were seriously cut, and that ithers were only slightly cut, but hat bruised heads were plenty. Bart Stinson, a miner, ran from he saloon down the street and back icros.s the street to the rear of the lostoffie**, where he fell from the loss if blood. He was picked up amt >laced in as comfortable position as tossiblo and Dr. Woodward was ailed, who made an examination 'of lie wounded man and found that lie lad been cut twice; one cut extendd from just back of the let) arm pit lown below the short ribs, being ibout sixteen inches long; the other tcross the left side of the stomach, md being about six inches long. * lie •resented a horrible sight to those vho witnessed the doctors dress md then, sew up t he wounds. Ic is still in a precarious "coudition md there are but slight hopes of his ■ecovery. Peter Stinson fared but little better. ;le ran from the saloon with blood a reaming from several cuts, to bis trothcr-in-law’s home. Dr. McUrew jf Ayrshire, dressed Ills wounds, .vhioli consisted of a cut on the the hroat from the lip of the left eag •round in front to what is calk™ ‘Adam’s apple,” a very serious cut, tul not deep enough to cause any serious results; another cut on the right breast about four inches long; mother deep gasii i# the muscle of he right arm, and a stab in (lie back, [t was a very narrow escape and hail lie razor or knife went but a hair ]oeper it would have undoubtedly severed the jugular vein. Levi Rued, a farmer, was also seriously slabbed. lie was slabbed live times in the back and right 6ide md although at first it was thought ;hat lie was not seriously cut, yet Dr. Ireland, who dressed tho wounds, bought that serious results might follow. At this writing ho is very ow, and it is learned that Ills -condiion is alarming. Alfred Ilced and others also rereived slight cuts and bruises, but uniting serious. Just who the parties are who done the cutting is unknown, but several liavc been accused, but no arrests tiave been made at this writing. 1’ho cutting is to bo greatly deplored in many respects, but it is said that there has been an old grudgo slandiug between some of the men engaged in the fight and they took the opportunity to have it out, while there was another racket going on. The injured men are hard workers md very peaceable when not in their nips. While a tew of those engaged in the fight mav have bBon drinking lie majority of them were sober, ami were just onlookers but got mixed up in the light and were on the defensive, yet others were right in lot having a time, and they had it. And another chapter lias been adled to Winslow.
