It. was several minutes before order was restored, when the nomination of Taylor was made unanimous by the defeated candidates and the delegates from the different counties. Mr. Taylor then stepped on the stage and in a few eloquent remarks thanked the delegates for the honor thus conferred on him. Ilis remarks were received with cheers and ho was congratulated on all sides for tho lair and impartial manner in which he had made his canvass for the nomination. Calls for Kracmer and Parrott, brought those gentlemen to the stage, who assured the convention that they were still democrats and would not be found sulking in their tents, but would be to the front and working tor the election of Mr. Taylor and the entire democratic ticket ffom top to bottom. The speeches were received with loud cheering. After congressman Parrelt’s remarks the convention adjourned with three rousing cheers, and the delegates returned to their several counties with the one purpose in view of giving Mr. Taylor two thousand majority at the election in November. AT HOME. Shortly after tho nomination, word was received by telegram that Mr. Taylor had been successful, there was general rcjoiciug'&mong the people, and upon tho arrival of the train a targe number met him at tho depot. Tho boys who had boon to the convention then went to work and at about eight o’clock over three hundred people- preceded by the city band headed themselves toward Mr. Taylor’s home on Walnut street, where tho band discoursed several selections, and to the frequent calls, Mr. Taylor stepped to tho front and addressed the citizens assembled in his very pleasant and affable manner. At the conclusion of Mr. Taylor’s remarks three rousing cheers were giycn with a will and also three more for the success of the democratic party. It was a right royal welcome which the citizens of Petersburg gave him regardless of politics, nearly half of the people present being republicans, who, with the democrats, rejoiced at Mr. Taylor’s nomination. Our people not only regard it as an honor on the town and county, hut that the nomination was worthily besto wed on one who has the intellect, education ami ability to fill the office to the acceptability of the people of the First district. Although Hie ratification of Mr. Taylor’s nomination wae gotten up on very short notice, it was a complete success in every particular, and shows the esteem in which he Is held hy Ills fellow townsmen, and it is safe to say that he will receive many votes from republicans in this county.
