Beach, living near Augusta, has just opened up a three-foot vein of coal on his farm. Hawes case will come up for trial and in all probability will occupy the first part of the term. Children’s day was observed by the Baptist people last Sunday evening. Their place worship was beautifully festooned with wreaths and Cowers and the essays, recitations and songs were very well rendered. From report it seems - that there was some tall running engaged in last Sunday night about eleven o'clock, It is said the young fellow went to see the girl, but that the old mao thought the hour was a little too late and opened lire on him. Most of the merchants are now pushing the homo industry cigars to the front, aud all of the merchants should onoourage this industry by doing so. U. women of onr country. And I might say men too, for there are gentlemen who gave us their hearty support and sym. pa thy, “they will likewise have their reward.’’ The idea prevails, that it is only a crusade against the saloon and the use of alcoholic liquors, but that is not ail by any means, there are many departments of work, such as narcotics, health and heredity, purity in literature and art, orphans home work, work among miners, flower mission work, jail and prison, 6abbath observances, evangelistic work, with a superintendent for eaeh. And the object of the whole is to better the oonditiou of our fellow beings, socially, morally, and spir. Itually. We believe this great movement is Gods work, and we are only instruments in his hands, by whom the work must be accomplished. And ail who have faith in the power of prayer, must believe the work will ultimately succeed, when they learn that two hundred thousand earnest Christian women, are each day sending up their petitions to a throne of grace for strength, courage, and wisdom, to enable them to go forward in this terrible conflict of right against wrong. We have four unions in l’ike county,located at the following places, Petersburg. Otwell, New Lebanon, and $jgiers. All are doing good work, for the Master. The Demorest medal contests have been helpful to the Otwell uuion, New Lebanon, and Algiers, encn have several honor, ary memiwrs who render efficient aid in the work, they are all intelligent gentlemen, who are not ashamed io wear a knot of white ribbon attached to their watchehains. We are proud ot our honorary members and would gladly welcome many more. Our meetings are interesting and helpful. They are always tree for any, and all, who wish to attend. S. i. A.
