Shawban & Boonshot have recently constructed a sewer along their store building on 7iU street to keep the waste wafer from cu.ering their cellar and oilier wise annoying them in the pursuit of their business. It is what they are pleased to call "sheeuey ” and eousists in thumping an empty can about with sticks to the annoyance of all passers. The marshall should put a stop to it. Commissioners Court convenes again to day for the purpose of opening aud examining bids for stationary to he used by the county the ensuing year. There were six bids handed in and it wilt require some time, no doubt, to determine which is the lo west aud best. Mr. F. B. Posey has recoutly added many improvements lo his coal minus at Blackburn. The facilities for taking out coal have been greatly enlarged aud the mine is now the equal to auy if not the best in the county. Mrs. Thornton has employed a Mr. Caddis, of Yiucennes, to prepare the plans and specifications for the Orphan’s Home building to be erected on her vacant lot on the Jasper and Wluslow roads in tho south part ol town. Mr. Ingle positively refuses to receive the repentant woman, but instead is making preparation to have her and her paramour indicted on a charge of graud lerceny. Lowry has not returned, and it would b< nohenlihy for him to make his appearance at Oden, as the injured husband is lying for him with a gun aud purposes to lay him ont permanently at the fir,t opportunity. Suicided. J. C. Adams, E*q. a prominent attorney, of Vincennes, and formor editor of The Commercial, of that city committed suicide in his office last Wednesday. On Sabbath morning last the eiti-. ecus of Petersburg were startled by Iho discovery that tlic Post-Office had been burglarized and the safe therein ■ blown open and emptied ot' its con - toutssomctimeduringthoearly morning*hours. The tools with which the work had been done were found iu the rear of the building by Mr. Gits .Frank, who at once commenced au investigation which resulted in finding that an entrance had been effected through one of the rear window’s of tile post office building and that the door of the safe had been blown off by a charge of pow der and the safe entirely gutted. A large crowd soon gathe,ed and every offoi I was made to tLnd some clue to the perpetrators. Mr. Adams reports that there was left in the safe on Satniday night one hundred and thirty-five dollars in money. Three hundred dollars iu postage stamps and five registered packages in transit. The loss of the money and stamps will have to be borne by Mr. Adams. We trust that the porpetrator$ of this crime will be found and severlv pun-' ished. ----
