AN IK DUN A GIANT. . —QtHe StaMlLl rm l lukH la Hla StMklap, aaS ia a tanspwa la smafhit Among the hills of Washington couuty, ludiaua, not far from New Providence and about twenty-five miles from Louisville, uostles an old fashioned, comfortable farmhouse, says the Chicago Aemt. The house is the home of the tallest man in the West, perhaps in the United States. Jacob Williams, the giant, is a fine specimen of physical manhood, and a picture of perfect health, standing, iu his stocking feet, 7 feet 3 inches, and weighs, fighting trim 357 pouuds. Ho was born iu Polk township, Washington couuty, Sep. 24, 1858; is 33 years old, and siugle. When a boy he was not abnormally tall, shooting up to his great height.duriug the last years of his teeus. In complexion he is rather fare, has gray-blue eyes. Strangely enough, no other member is extremely tall, the father measuring u feet 10 iuchcs and he is the tallest of the family, including two daughters, whom someapper not long ago pataded as a giantess, much to the young lady’s annoyance. Jacob Williams, in additon to being quite good looking, he is also good natured a lucky thing, for if ho were ill tempered lse coulfttnake it decifl^^ lively in his bailiffwick. Mr. Williams is a farmer, working on his father's place, and as that j gentleman says, “the best hand on the place.’* His physical power and cndurancejarc simply astounding. He can go all day and not feel a bit tired wiille in an encounter he would simply bo “a crusher’. He lifts tremendous weights aud thinks nothing Of it When asked whether he (Md wot fbd it awkard to stoop from his height he smiled and said If did not seem hard for Idm to dig potatoes. As supple'as smaller tuen, he can walk ail around them and wear them out. While in a pleasant and kiudly disposition, he is not the man to take either insults or gibe, those who kuow him never offer it. Iu fact lie, does not havo to fight for his rights, his size being enough to hold auj body iu check. Wisely enough no mau desires to tackle a mau who sleeps iu an 8 foot 6-iucli bed and has to stoop to get through the door iqjo the house. He has liad offers to travel with Barnum and was requested to make a contract with n circus, but in each instance he declined, prefering the unostentatious life of a farmer aitd bavin* sincere dislike for notoriety. ■ r

This city of Boston was built on a rock, that was the rock of ages. Tremont Temple wis established in 1839 as a free church for Boston where all persons whether rich or poor, without distinction of color or condition might worship. The present building? was erected iu 1879. Dr. .Loriwer of Chicago & pastor of the congregation that - worships hero and on Sabbath morning delivered one of the most wonderful sermon ever delivered to our woitiep. on sneh au occasion. It will be published in.full iu the Union Signal: Hero Joseph Cook delivered Into famous Monday lectures. Here not long since “La Mcrechacl” plead the cause of the down troden of France. No city and uo building Jcould be more magnetic with interest than thatiu which this dual couvention was held. v - - There were over 4.U0!) delegates from the states besides those from Canada: and across the sea. No National convention has ever heard such music as was furnished this one under the leadership. No convention was oyer more roy illy entertained. Lunch at 12:30 and lea at 6 o'clock, wits served to all delegates in lire basement of the ^empM ekph day except-Sunday. .Tliere were in the Temple numerous committee rooms, which were i n great demand*, a bureau of information, Post Office for the couvention . Everything one oould think of to add: to tiie corafiu^Juul convenience of clock, at 2:30 and x^TSOeach dav, ovefiow meetings, were held in Park St and Bromfleld St. churces, ottAjesaed by the best speakors of th^ronvetwioti. There were a large number of requests for women to mi the pulpits on Sunday, over sixty pulpits were thus filled, anil 13 mass meeting of children were held. - Mrs. Tel Sono, the Japanese lady lawyer aud reformer, was one.of the mos^pictcrsque figures on the convention platform. Mrs. Bsryk^t and her borther were iiiteuselv interesting,—I believe they were from Syria, and when introduced to the convention Were dressed In their native costomo. Madam Augelini of Italy, others of the delegates from the World, was a mast interesting speaker, aud an earnest listener. The center of attraction was the noble, gifted, lovely and most loveable of women, Lady Henry Somerset, Her simplicity of dress, her grace and degnit.v and most of all her sweet christlike spirit on ail occasions completely won all hearts. V Thousands of lives are saved annually by the use of Ayer's Cherry Pectoral. In the treatment of croup and wliooping coogh, the Pectoral has a most marvelous effect. It allays inflamation, frees the obstructed air passages, aud controals ths desire to cough.
