THAT FORCE BILL. Democrat’s Washington Letill partially explain to -you the it condition of what is known B Force Bill It deserves not to urrected, though it U doubtful he left to tire fate ft so certainly dees. The bill is a buzz-saw for the iblicans. If they do not pass it, r are a number of men who will tif(flyer than the inoorf, simply me thet anc potitical eorruptiound want a law under which they ractioe frauds. If ^lic bill does r.ne a law there will come up a Satisfaction among the Itotiest eleofthe party, tor it is a wellT i fact that thc “pioua'’(?) presi- , was elected by corrupt methods, that Dudley’s btockVof-fiVfc was a well-known factor to &son who is so anxious for the Bill to become a law.- It is i by many of tlie hones! element Republican parly, that Ilarriit Attorney-Genera! Miller to fo to raise a special^und of $20,d tiling the campaign. The also know who the four eonwerc. Some of the subers took the precaution to make ■checks parable only to Harrison JTimself. This was an unnecessary ■fund, and if Dudley was not the otie *who demanded this sum ot money, the mail who did must have 1 equally as corrupt. I'd say that ison dtd not know what wasdone the money cannot be proper, |e was too closely allied with oil jrork of the campaign for that: ^He knew, moreover, how that Dudley escaped by Judge Wood's brcakitt|r flie teeth of'the common law. The people, knowing that the eylinfnistration knows these things, cannot believe tire Force Bill is for anything put the licensing of fraud. The uesVclement of all parties will reJ£ any set of men who make any Eish a law, while the political corptionists of at least one party- will imbor for it. The Republicans on rForce Bill are like the Irishman lit swallowed an egg without breakIgThe shell. lie was in a terrible state Ff mind, because, if he jumped around lie might break the egg and the shell | would cut his stomach ; and, if he lay _J>1," the egg would hatch and he bid 1iave a Shanghi rooster elawiing liis insides. That the forre hill has thus been treated is a matter for general cotttulatien. A third of the session [ias been thrown away in its conshjernioti, and schemes are still afoot (• k-oneutne perhaps another third in

n I arpjtfMuuHh Isentim^^Wf tblc fact tliat tlic measure is not inked for by .the country and has no public sentiment behind it. It is also lobe noted in this connection as showing the drift of popular opinion, that among thecight Republicans who soled with the Democrats in fpvor of ittiug the force bill aside were three [es.«rs.'Tcller of. Colorado, Stanford of California, and Jones of Nevada), who are standing for re-election, and jiably acquainted with the their own States; and ^ro (Messrs. The displacement of the force bill \ esterday was a total surprise to Senator Edmunds and other Republican Hiators. One Western Senator wiio Kurds the bill with indifis not willing to abau[at it was a party measIbc friends of the bill PTot know whst io think or do tow,, for they had been so surprised they had nof lime to consider the ifion. - ■ ii_.. , - Tine Hussell-Stewurt-Clark Harder. Last week I lie Dkmocrat spoke of a murder whieh took place at Evansville, the trouble having come up over a woman named Joe Clark, pretended jvifo of Russell. It is a bad caifr, and illustrates that the tferpimonde should be strictly watched and guarded by the officials of every town, utti) that the law should be enforced against her on all occasions. From the history of that one woman, Joe Clark, \ou may easily learn what letting one bail woman have her way will lead’ to. From the Evansville Journal wo get the history of a gang steeped in bloody crimes. The Journal says Stuard has lived in Evansville some eight or niuc years and baa always'been recognized as one of the sporting fraternity. He come* from a good family, who live near Henryville, this State, and where he has a wife.and two bright children— a boy and a girl—residing. They were devoted to him, but he was hard-hearted enough to cast them aside for the companionship of Joe Clarke, one of the worst /strumpets that ever disgraced the fair* name of Evan»\ tile. Less than two years ago the wife of Stuard, a sweet-faced, well educated little woman, and her two children, came to Evansville and met Stuard in llaynie’s Hotel. There the wife pleaded with hint to see the error of his way and return to the bosom of Ilia family, and all would be forgiven. He appeared to be touched by the pleadings of'his wife and children, and made them fair promises, and when he. left the hotel the little woman was shedding tears oP* jov. Stuard did not return t> them after leaving the hotel. The man was not worth them, because lie was a hardhearted, unfeeling brute, and knew lie was lying when lie made the promises of reformation, lie was wrapped up in that most caloused, most degraded of all females, Joe Clarke, whoso notorious reign among the lowest classes of the demi-monde has been uninterrupted for years. Stnarjkclaimed to have married this woman in Chicago, but lie would hardly have willlingly become a bigamist. Let’s look into Joe Clarke’s record a little and see if it won’t justify the assertion that “Sho must go.” This woman was mixed up in the row in which Adam Lipknight shot and killed Joe Skeels while at a Sunday picnic in the country, near Evansville, on Aug. 19, 1883. Lipknight wasin the company of Joe Clark’s sister, Angy, at the lime. Lipknight was arrested, convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to tho penitentiary f<Pi twentv-one years. He was pardoned by Governor Gray. It was at Joe Clark’s den of viie iufaniy that John Knappke murdered John and Charles Miller on April 2, 1881. Knappke was tried for the crime, hut acquitted. Two or three years later ho died of delirium tremens in the city lock-up. Joe Clarke was milted np in the killing of Sam Ives, an ex-policeman, some years since, who was fatally cut by John Koster, the husband of Clarke’s sister, Angy. Ives, it will be remembered, went into the alley beside Bernardin’s, on First Street, and bled to death. Koster was acquitted when put on trial for the crime. It was at Joe Clarke’s that Pal Wright, a railroad conductor, was so bruiallv assaulted and cut by two young men named Miller, on the 16th of last March. ♦ And now comes the killing of John Stuard at her very door. It was in the valoon run by Stuard and this woman that llussell was invited ‘to take a social drink, when he was insulted and brutally assaulted. Now, three or four houses of ill-repute and a saloon are conducted by Joe Clarke, and they are as low and vile dens as any in Evansville. They are regular incubators of crime and should be suppressed. Why the city council and county commissioners license this hardeud creature to run a saloon in connection with houses of ill-repute is certainly a mystery. It is time Joe Clark was being called tp a halt. And it is time a halt were called, not alone in Evansville, but in every town where such crime as such houses bring to existence are so sure to be committed.

A l-OEM, or what portends to be one, is on our desk from a young man of our county. It is not the poorest we have ever received ; and, considering ■the inexperience and youthfulness .one wliosc name is attached, he should not be discouraged, but should persevere. The poem shows tiiat he ia wanting in a knowledge of nrosody, for the verses are so mixed where they should not be that 1 he poem is broken, into joints in both rhyme and sentiment. A few years study may make him a good poet, if he have the natural qualifications, and this is what we would impress on the miud of every aspirant for IjMjyry honors. 'Kali Fur McKinley.
