Huntington was named iu honor of Samuel Huntington, a delegate to the Continental Congress from Connecticut, and o.ie of the signets of the Deciaratisu of Independence of the United States. Ripley county wo* named after Gen. E. W. Ripley, an officer of the war of IS12. The last couuty to he organized was Newton, which was in 1860. Probably not one person out ot ten thousand in this State knows whence the name of this county domes and yet no county in Indiana is more ,approialely named. As it was taken from Jasper county, which was named for Sergeant Jasper, it was called Newton, a triend of die hero of Fort Moultiie.—Hr.

Beniamin Thacker, on the list, ult, at about A o'clock, a. ra., of kidney colic, in the 68th year of hi* age. Hr. Thacker was a man laved by all vrhbknew him. He leaves a fhmily of two daughters besides many friends to mourn his loss. His funeral took place from bis residence in this neighborhood at 9:36 o'clock Nov. 1st, and he was followed by a large concourse of friends to the Chappell Cemetery where he wae interred at 11:30 O'clock, a. m. Although he waa financially limited, he atways maintained that trait of character that bespoke for him uprightness.
