Ashcroft, three old-time counterfeiters who have served several terms in the penitentiary. They arc charged with being members of a large gang of criminals that has been circulating spurious mouey iu Indiana for several mouths. Indiana is divided into two internal revenue districts, the Sixth and Seventh. Lust year the Sixth district paid 12,097,461 of revene, and the Sevonth district paid 41,417,977. The compensation of the collector in each district is $4,500- The total expense of collecting the revenue ill this district last year was $01,512. The Secretary of the State Board of Agriculture says his reports indicate a wheat yield of about 35,230,000 bushels. last year the crop was 28,750,000 bushels, 39,090,000 bushels in 87 and 43,226,000 in '86. The largest yield on record was 50,000.000 bushels in *81. The acreage lias been steadily decreasing the past few year*. A* Old Sol cocked one eya and peeped from beneath the horixon, Thursday morning, he was so astounded by hearing ,l01d Nigger Bill” give vent to his pent up feelings (which had been securely locked up in his strong coat of Iron ever since .the rcuiiion) that lie bad to sliake himself together and shove bis knuckles in his eyes like a big overgrown boy before he could realise what it all meant. Finally he remembered an event that occuresl 113 years before, and the mauy events in commemoration ot that occurence— so he smiled beuiguty all day long and. never dodged oue single lime behind a cloud to keep from being hit with a fire-cracker; aud right here if it be not out of place, the Dsmochat in behalf of the rt. A. It, the Fire Company, the Sons of Veterans and the citizens of Petersburg, express their sincere thanks to the old gentleman , tor his kindness. May he live long aud prosper. At an earlv; hour people began to assemble from far aud near and by the time the parade took plaeu tiic street* were oue surgiug, crowding mass (?) of humanity. The following was the program of the exercised: Exercises: National Salute at 4 o’clock a. in. The Post assembled at their hall at 8 o’clock a. in. and marched to, and went into camp at the Fair Grounds. Guard Mount at 9 o’clock a. m. Regiment Drill at 10 a. m. Declamations aud short speeches at 11 o’clock a. m. Dinner at 12 M. Orations by ltev. rl. N. King and otiiers at 2 o’clock p. m., after which there was dress-parade, concluding with a grand exhibition by the Petersburg Fire Department. The usual army faro was furnished ail soldiers. C ; At uight a cautp fire was held in the court yard, where the old soldiers ] related their war experiences. All j excellent speech was made by Willie Carlctou at this meeting. •I NOTES. Crack! Crack! The hotels were crowded ( ?) Nothing small (?) about Petersburg celebrations.. How's beans and sow belly ? Some ol the beaus were left ovpr; if it was a campaign year they would be consumed at a soldiers’ reunion in j September. The crowd was the largest (?) that I ever assembled in Petersburg. The country people who came to town at night to see the lirc-wwks( ?) were doubtless delighted and feel am-1 ply repaid tor their trouble. Come j again when you want to sec some-1 thing real idee. The tiro company gave an exhibition of their skill in throwing water ami climbing trees. Such compensation must be paid from the Special School Revenue, and not from the Tuition Revenue. i

Mrs. Frank Roush gave her Sunday school pupils a picnic at the fair grounds, as a farewell party prior to her departure for Mai-on Ga., to-day. Mrs. Rousb has had charge of the infant class of the M. E. Sunday School a greater portion ol the time since her residence here and has become ingratiated iu iho affections of the little ones, as well as in the liearts of the oilier eclielais and their teachers. Many a tear wHI glisten in the eye and steal softly down the rounded checks of the little ones as the/ assemble iu the Sabbath school next Sunday, and many an older heart will beat iu sympathy.
