On the 2d. lust., one John Donl^v, in the employ of Jasper Davidson, of near Union, this comity, rode a horse belonging tor Mr. Davidson, to Petersburg. lie left hereon that day with the horse which, it is believed, he aimed to steal. His action aroused suspicion, and parties were sent in pursuit. Samuel Smith overtook the mail ou the horse at London, in M trim county, and brought .him and bom back to Petersburg, On Thursday last. A preliminary trial befliiro 'Squire Fields resulted in Donley's confinement in jail in default of bond which was placed at $o00, where • he awaits trial at the Pike eirenit cotjfrt. June term. After being confined, in jail, Douley wrote a letter to Mr. Davidson, which has fallen into ©nr hands, and which we take the liberty Jo publish, as follows : * "Mr. Davidson; Dear Sir,—I suppose you now have a Very had ciplnion of tue. I cannot blame you, tor I have acted badly, though I had mot thought of trying to run away with Jour horse; and if you had not sent RVr mo I should have been back as toon as I got in my sober senses. Black took charge of the department. lie permitted the old man to keep his place. Gen. Harrison returns the compliment by removing Black in three weeks and appointing the man who said in a speech at this place last fall that hell was tull of Democrats. Speaking of Black’s removal the Union says: “There is more ‘gallant’ officials who may prepare to follow the ‘gallant Black.” That is not from the pen of the protection editor but emanated from the big brain of the Clydesdale-Morgan-llambleton-ian horse editor.
