Petersburg K«t rprisa. A little over a year ago an agitation was raised in Petersburg concerning a starch factory. Pike -county produces nnnv corn than any county of its size in Indiana and to day this, product is selling for 23 ee-its. A starch lav t ny would raise the pro e from this to thirty-one or two cents and pay a handsome dividend to the -lock holders. Why not put the movement on foot again ami see what can he done? There are parties who arc wilting to take this thing in hand and push it through, ami let us see what can be made of it.

[Quincy News.] The Casino Opera Company is one iha: wedou i* catv to criticise. Where all did so well it would be unkind not io speak a good word for ail. Mr. Charles Holmes nol only trie a magnificent tenor voiee, but he uses it with avigor ami a manliness that charms the audience lilis stage presence is es| ecially fine. Miss Bcs-ie Louise King is I hr sweetest and dear st little “ Yum Yiuu” that j ever blushed ill the presence of an au lienee. She is simple, modest, thoroughly charming, and, lie: Voice is one of the pleasantest we .have listened to iu many a day. Not that its cultivation is so superior, but because it is sweet, pure and flexibly ami imhmusc it is in perfect kivping and sympatl y and banuony with Yum Yum herself. Bui Misses Helm Harrington and Sue Burton alsoi did well, receiving ilieir full share of the honors Boih of them will lie favorites with Quincy people. Mi Cartliy has a noble voice and was upplauded repeatedly. He is a graceful comedian a- well as is Mr. Higgins, His was one of the best and mots artistic performers ou the stage. His role was ditScuH in that it was so easy to exaggerate it; and lie did not exaggerate it a bit. Thom ts Martin is a “blight particular star.'’ He kept the Imuse in laughter and sang the “tit-willow” melody in a manner that hushed ihe audience, so anxious was every one to catch every word and note. The same high praise may lie given Miss Agnes lialtock, who played Kutisha to perfection. She is j an exceptionally good artist, ami her excellent work was heartily appreciI ated last night. As we said before, ;it is a strong company, deseivingof praise and supp rt, an t the Democrat gives both unstintedly. This company exhibits here Monday and Tuesday nights of next week.
