Rosalind May makes one wise suggestion, when site recommends that people of moderate means should not rush into the new tangled styles, until the more wealthy had tested thMr durability. The advice is good but find the lady of fashion, who thinks she must Bwait for some ore else to introduce the style. Pope’s rule in rhetoric is alike applicable to fashion. “ Words, like fashions, truly hold Alike fantastic if too new or old; be not the lirst by whom the new are tried A or yet the last to lay the old aside.” When a party of ten or twelve wish to goat onetime to any place on the railroad, if thev apply they van secure from the railroad company tickets at about half price. If they go for the purpose of buying goods, they are perfectly independent, and can buy trout the house or houses that keep the largest and best stock, and sell; at the lowest prices. It will not require auv argument to prove to any person that this is tjib best plan. J. F. FIRST IS TIIE COUNTRY. Blood ilouutls to Capture the Fire-ling's. We learn front Mr. Hunter, law partner of W. A. Traylor, of Jasper, the following particulars in regard to the burning at Ireland on the night of Monday last, of a barn of Mr. Tray lor. The barn was discovered to be on fire between the hours of 9 and 10 o’clock at night. At the time it was burn d '(contain si JOtonsof hay. this vcar’s crop of wiiea>, 200 bushels of potatoes, a self-binder belonging to Fred. Geiger, and other property. The loss amounts to some $2,000, 000 of which was insured. The projf erty, it is thought, was set on fire. A a effort was made to get the hlnodv Itotiuds front Princeton and thus test 'he matter as to whether any one is guilty or not, lmt Monday’s afternoon train failed to have the hounds aboard. Thus stands the ease. Dubois county has her company of White Caps, but the blood-hound is in advance of of these ferriting out malefactors and disturbers of the peace. Dubois county should iittni incendiaries, murderers, and outrageous criminals guilty of crime within Iter bowl -rs by the blood-hound, if such a course is necessary to effect their capture. Mr. Elijah llobhs, living in the same neighborhood, a short time hack lost a tine barn and its contents bitiro. The origin of the (ire is a mystery, hut it is supposed the barn was set on tire. Mr. Holdis is one of the best citizens of this county—peaceful, law-abiding and law-sustaiug. The origin of these two tires should receive investigation.—iluntingburg Independent.
THE GOVERNOR'S POWER To Appoint a Senator if the Legisiaturc Fails to Eicct. The Indianapolis News says: The question of the Governor’s power to appoint n United States Senator in the event of the failure of the legislature to elect one is being discussing. There is no doubt now about the power of the governor to make sueji appointment. The United State* Senate settled that disputed question in the east; jjf lie' I, of New I lamp: shire, in 1879, and of Blair of New Hampshire, in 1883. Stranger things have happened than the failure of the next legislature to eleet a senator. In that event, whom would Governor Gray appoint? There is widje room for speculation here. Reports of Secretary Heron, of the Slate Board of Agriculture, as received indicate that the corn crop in Indiana is not as was tir.st estimated.
