1.1 E. Passenger Couch Derailed. On last Friday morning, as the north-bound mixed train on the I. & E. road was nearing the UY,” tlirc« miles this side of Washington, the passeuger coach jumped the track, rattled along over the ties for about fort; feet and toppled over on its side against an embankment. Jake Schurz, of this place, was caught beneath tin falling car, but fortunately was not seriously injured, though receiving painful bruised on the lower limbs. The ear was raised by jacks so that Mr. Schurz couhlbe taken.out, as hewas pinned to the ground. Mr. Keith, the mail messeuger, sustained a sprained ankle by jumping off after the car had settled. Among the passengers from here were Lucius Corning aud T. A. Bynum, who remained in the car With a few others during the crash, the former receiving some hard bumps on the head aud slight scratches, and the latter faring a little better. It was a narrow escape for all the passengers (about thirty in number) from serious injury. The wreck was soon cleared by the crew sent out by President Mackey, aud travel was not much delayed.
Rogers & Iiro. contemplate euhirging their business at the mine%- [As soon as the weather permits they will sink another shaft into their wealth of coal at Rogers'station, on the I. & E. These enterprising men are now loading from seven to wine cars daily at their mine, and this improvement to he made will double the production, as they wish to do. We are informed that the introduction of Pike county coal into the Washington market has caused local producers to cut their prices about twenty per eeut. From both the Rogers' and Posey mines large shipments pass through here daily besides the large quantities supplied to home consumers, the Posey coal being sold here more than the other. Rogers' coal is sold largely at Washington, aud finds a ready sale at Evansville aud other markets as well as all the coal taken out from mines on the l. i L and the Air Line railroads. Amusements. See Ethel Tucker Monday and Tucs» clay nights. A dramatic treat, f The Esquimaux lady will give a lecture at the Opera House to-night A tine entertainment will be afforded all who visit Schaeffer's Hall this (Thursday) evening. Miss Olaf Kfarer, the young Esquimaux lady, will gives lecture on her travels, it will be interesting, and merits a good house. Miss I\rarer stands but 40 inches high aud is most compactly built, weighing 120 pouuds. She is 27 years old and speaks the English language quite fluently. Her description of her native land. Northeastern Greenland, is most interesting. She tells her story iu a straightforward manner aud is only too glad to answer all proper questions propounded to her. Go to her lecture to-night, and learn of a land that is colder than this —Greenland—from the lips of the lady. The Ethel Tucker Comedy Company, of which the Evauyrilte papers have spoken so highly during the past week, will visit Petersburg for Monday and Tuesday evenings, March 2t! and 3d. opening in the beautiful play of “Fanehon the Cricket." The Evansville pajters say this little lady has. no equal in the part, and is equally as tine as Maggie Mitchell for whom the piece was written. The Company played eight nights in Evansville and on their last performance, which was "liaaet Kirk," the house was crowded. We hope the little lady may leave Petersburg with as many good recollections as she did at Evansville. The Company she comes with here is fully capable of supporting such au artist as Ethel Tueker.
