Swallowing Poison. . A terrible feature of Catarrh is that the person affected is continually swallowing the decomposed anti j poisonous mucous secreted hr the i diseased glands aiul mucous mem- ! brutes lining the cavity of the head I and throat. This poisonwHs mucous routing in contact with the organs of j digestion, causes dyspepsia, heaviness i and bloating in the stomach : and he- i ing digested with the food is absorbed into the circulation, thereby {>oison-1 ing the blood, which renders the disease constitutional: Besides, the inflammation extends into the tubes connecting the throat and car* causing ringing, hissing, and buzzing, and finally deafness sets in. If",the catarrh is not arrested it will eventually extend downward to the lungs, causing bronchitis and consumption. Many poor sufferers think catarrh incurable, and these arc usually those who have been using patent catarrh

Ferdinand Saul has made a careful study of catarrh and deafness for years, an 1 actually and permanently cures it by a me thod of his own. The Doctor has published a work on this disease; and at one time was the founder and proprietor aft he largest catarrh and ear Infirmary in the country, where he treated hundreds of eases. A Card from Mr. Ytnson France. Editor Democrat—rir: Id last week’s , impression of the Tress appeared the following: s As we predieted, the Democrats are placing every obstacle in the war to prevent the collection of the shortage due from J. tV. Richardson. At the last meeting of the Commissioners Vinson France died his protest to the employing of Ely & Townsend to assist in the prusecution'of the cases. It will be remembered that Ely Jt Townsend were employed by the Hoard to a-sist in the cases sis munths ago, and Mr. France was at that time a member of the Roan}. If he did not concur in the proceedings, why did he not enter his protest then and there, and not wait till after the election was over? This Is certainly a very strange proceeding on the part of Mr. France, to say the least i of it, but when it is remembered" that he is one of Mr. Riehardson's'itoudsuien a ray of light is thrown on his aetifin: The taxpayers anxiously await further developments in the matter. I am welt aware of the natural inclination the editor of the Press gas for stating falsehoods when the truth would answer afar better purpose; but in truth I was not prepared for the above. The facts connected with the employment of counsel in the abovecase would have remained a matter of
record simply, so far »s I urn concerned. i had cot the idiotic youth of the Tress tried] to turn the tables against me; as it is i ■ teel called %pcn to give the facts as they j oeeurred- in the first place, the law re- | •luirostthat the Proseettting Atterney shall institute suits of this character. The Board ! of t'oBimissionctfi. a majority of which were Republicans, felt that the burden imposed on the lhrosecetor would be too arduous, and proceeded to employ additional counsel. This was done at tire October Special Term, ISS3, of the Commissioner's Court; and l’osey ,t Wilson were then employed *t a large fee—the amount is not given. The suit was instituted and was, so far as the legal talent was concerned, progressing as well as it well could. At the June Term, ISH-i, the matter of employing additional counsel was brought up by ; George and Johnson, by one of them producing a contract they had entered into with Ely A Townsend, whereby, they agreed to pay an uncertain fee for their services in assisting as already large array of counsel. I immediately stated to the other members of the Bonn’ that i thought it a 8agraut outrage and an uncalled for expenditure of the public funds. Nothing more was said in the matter until near the close of the term, when the matter was again mentioned by George. A proposition, such as is now of (record, was spoken of in my presence by the other membersof the Board to Sir. Ely. I then, in their presence, protested against it, saying it was an. outrage, and that if any thiug of the kind was done I should eater my protest of record. I informed the Board that if they were dissatisfied vv ith Posey & Wilson they could dismiss those gentlemen and employ Ely A Townsend, and that so far as I was concerned X would heartily concur in the action, but .to employ so many at stteh large fees I | deemed an outrage. I then informed them, [that if it was put of record I should file toy | pretest and lot the tax-peyers say who was ! right. I also pointed out to them the Joose i way the contract had boon made with the experts, the large amount of money we had already paid, nearly JiUXJo, anil warned them against such action. I prepared my protest then an 1 there amt was ready to file it, and so told them, but the contract was pocketed by Mr. George and was never placed of record until after the election. I fretjuenUy ; examined the records, tvs did others, to the number of a dozen, whose names can be i given; but the contract With Ely ,t Townsend was not of record, nor anything apjtcr- ] twining to it. The e tract was put of | record after the elsctiuo, and so soon as 1 learned that it was there X wrote my pres lest under it. The record was not signed by.Mr. Georgs until nearly two jveeks after hc-went out of offlec and his successor was sworn in. I have never tried to throw any obstacle in the way of this suit; and objected to this employment only because it was a useless and . uawauton expenditure of rnonejo The Tress, certainly has concluded that Posey A Wilson are ac-t of much force i in a law suit when it is compelled to say i that ay efforts to keep additional counsel j from being employed would weaken' the ! prosecution of the case. When the' Press charges my si&tion in this matter with being done from mercenary or any other purpose save and alone that of being in the interest of the tax-payors, it charges what it knows to be false. Thanking you for this space, I remain. Truly yours, v Vrxsox Esaxce.
