Jotf\ f>\ T ayuh:, aged eighty-four years, aiuc months aart eighteen days %.■ Monday evening^ March 5,1883, this aged rather, husband and friend laid his baud into that of the pale messenger and whispered a final adieu to this troubled scene of ■iunnai! a flairs. At the still solemn hour of 11:20 p. in., just before the noon of night struck uport the shadowed earth, his bark passed the lest of flic breakers ondilb’s stormy flood and swept out under the star that silrers eternity’s calm and . gentle ocean. On tho 17tli of May, 170d, in Dnimhattbb, County Latriio, Ireland, he commenced a career which , lasted until another century Ws< growing old. On tic; “Esik raid Isle,’’ fayjp'iia forever in peetry and vu1 tier the thrilling notes of ,haph*$ “Erin’s harp," lus rhiiditodd was passed; There he grew to manhood. Nine children were I>orn of this wedlock,- namely : Mrs. 8arah M. Hicks, of New York; Mrs. Jaite At Tucker, wife of Morris Tucker; Mrs. Fannie R. Mount, wife *of Prof, J. Alt tile children survive him and were, with the exception of Mrs. Ilicbs, hovering near him, tender and tearful, during the closiug scenes of his earthly pilgrimage. Every aid which skill could command and every comfort which affectionate regards could suggest, were bestowed with lavish j haud; but to no purposeT He was by faith, an Episcopalian and there being no clergyman of that persuasion within reach, ltcv. Byram Carter, pastor of the M. E. church at this place, was called and administered the sacrament which apjieared to afford;him inexpressible delight. He looked upon that “abyss ^hich awaits aiike gie erring and the good’’ calnjly, aim sweetly took his stand In the mortal list and chhlletiged the ibbrtal blow. The wife and children stood weeping as the pulse grew heavy and the conqueror advaticed.
