Everyday wo reevive^eitera from subscribers which arc full of praise of the Democrat, and its course on public questions. We have only room enough for extracts from two Ipttere this week; W D. Ferguson, writing front ; Boouville, asking us N> change the [address of his paper, says: “I like the Democrat’s course on the tariff ques don and wish it'success.” J R. Scott, M. D of Edgar wood. Ills , in a letter containing a renewal of his subscription pays us the follow ing tribute: “lain well pleased with vour paper, especially pnliticallv Don’t let the Republicans beat you in the next election ” The Democrat recently departed from established practice, and sent a notice of indebtedness to its delinquent subscribers throughout the country. We have about fifteen hundred dollars on our. books ranging in amount from $1 50 to $7.00 whichwhiles small matter to each individ uat, is a considerable sum to ns. It those, who receive our notice, cannot pay the whole amount they owe. we will accept it as a favor if they will call at tho office and pay what ever they are able to. This will re jlieve ns from financial strain, and enable us to promptly meet current expenses. Some one told us the other day that a lady, of whom we had aright to expect better things, reported to the Prohibition missionary, who recently lectured here, that, the editor ®f the Democrat was a member of the Temperance Alliance, and as such was in the habit of frequently violating the obligations of the order. We cannot stop in our onward career to “hail every lie” that may be circulate^ concerning us “to the counter,’.’ but we pause long enough to nail these two, and to make this promise to tho lady that, if she will see that the demon of intemperance does net get away with her own family, the editor of the Democrat willaiee to it that he is one of the liveliest angels on the Evergreen shore when she bolds her family reunion there.

^orreepondence of the Chicago Tiroes. I be World’s Epileptic insiilnle. While passing through St. Joseph. Mo., and laving heard a great deal about the World's Epleptic Institute located here. I concluded to pay die celebrated institution a short Walt. We were net by Dr. Richmond, the proprietor, who has mined a reputation as broad as the land. He U i rather small, yet prepossessing man of very I (Table and gentlemanly manners. He gave us , i hearty welcome, and took great pains in showlisg ua through his palatial and mammoth institution. It isa five story building. 210x180 feet, with basement, and contains oyer three hundred rooms, and can accommodate five hundred patients, and each and every room is furnished in the most elegant and lavish manner. But we; trill begin at the office, which is a large room ; turuished with rosewood furniture throughout. 1 n the oflloo are thousands of photographs of those who have beeu benefited by the Nervine. The wails are elegantly papered, and are pro. S fusely decorated with rich and costly pictures,; relieved here and there by busts in stone aud' bronze of eminent men of this and other court-! tries. Iu connection wi|h the Institute isa mammoth prill ting house and bindery, occupying six or seven large rooms, and a score of presses are i kept runuing night and day turning put work for the doctor. The office is one of the finest and most complete in the west, and he has the rooms decorated. carpeted and trimmed up with as much care and luxury as is his own private of- j flee. On the first floor of this mammoth building ! is the doctor's private office, the printing depart-1 mi nt.- bindery tank room, packing, bottling and consultation rooms, barbershop, drugstore, etc., all of which are fitted up regardless of expense. The second floor has the hotel office, dining billiard and cooking rooius.many guests chambers and several parlors. The third and fourth Boors are all rooms, all of which are furnished with Brussells carpets(and the finest furniture. The billiard room has six tables, all of which are free to the guests of the house and their friends The bath room is large and neat, and is also free to guests. The entire building xs surrounded on the east aud south by an elegant five acre park, in which are loyely trees, beds of rich and rare plants, grave! walks aud drives, delicious arbors, and a most beautiful summer house. There are also a number of fountams that add wonderfully to the beauty of the park, which is truly one of the most lovely ami attractive in the western country, aud the Institute has no equal for luxury and comfort iu the world. Everything is perfection, and the visitor is at'once charmed with the entire place and its surroundings An idea of the immensity of the doctor's business may Ws given when we say that on the day we visited the Institute he showed us to his express room, and we saw tiie expressman take goods labeled to the following places, to say no dung of hundreds of orders from all quarters of America; Lyons, France; lieneva, Switzerland; Madrid, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; Cape Town, Africa; Shanghai, China; Yokohama, Japan; Bombay, India; Melbourne, Australia. The doctor employs hundreds of men and women in his Institute iu the several branches, aside from the imgeuse force required to eoudvict thejhotel. It is worth a visit, and Dr. Richmond extends to all a cordial invitation to come and see him. He and his wonderful medical di covery have given to St. Joseph a good name all over the habitable globe.
