The oonrention was called to order bv M. L. Smith, chairman. J. K. Lewis, of St. Joseph, was chosen secretary. A motion was made and carried to proceed to nominate a joint representative . A. Johnson moved thai each county ballot separately. The vote to which each township in Marshall was entitled, WM then anti emeed as foil WS : Tenter. 5; Walnut 2; Tippecanoe. 1 ; Uourbon, 3; . North, 1 ; VoU 2 : West, 1; Green, 1 ; Union, 1; German, 2. Total, 10. W. J. Hand thought the Vote of each township ought to be subdivided according to the total rote received; consented to. II. (i. Thayer moved that the names of candidates be announced, which Bants B prevailed. Mr. Bolton nominated James 0. Parks. r. Sherman nominated Henry 0. Thayer. P. C. Deihlefscn announced Charles G regg. II. (I Thayer withdrew, hoping his friends would all support Col. Sumner, (whoso nanu had not yet been announced.) CoL Sumner arose and said he did not desire to have his name brought before the convention, being careful not to deny that he was a candidate.
