The idea of trving to make anv ml J v person who is acquainted with Bill be lieve that 3ic piid a bill! lie may liupaid by his invaluable set i ices as editor but nut in money, we guess. If he had D onej to invest, he might have made a better use of it. For instance, he might hare paid his washerwoman, and saved soaaeefhia congregation the humiliation of coins an. -and and begging money enough for that pwrpose j and if he had been very flush he might have paid a similar biil that followed him from Ohio, and WSS a lung time in the hands of a rerj lenient lawyer of our town -he might pay his taxes; and thei as ?. kinJ of an understanding that was to pay for the time he publishe . hia church items in The Democrat, and he certainly Blight have divided ins payments between the two offices; but he gave us "nary red"' on that account. ol the goods were directed to Chicago merchants, with whom the company arc Bottling as fast as possible. A telegram from New York, May 16. gives the following account of the action of the strong-mince 1 in that city: The Borosis, at their monthly meeting. this evening, adopted the following strong resolutions : Renoheed That the assumpttm b y a husband of the ownership of his wife, as illustrated in the recent McFarland trial, is a shame to womanhood, and a deep disgrace upon our civilizati in. Resolved, That the bringing into oourt of letter 4 putely private and rsal, hiving no bei ring upon the case, and the wanton abuse r' noble, highminded men and women of blameless lives, is an outrage that meets the reprobation of the w hole civilized world. Renoleed, That we profoundly sympathize with Mrs. Richardson that wi believe her tobe an innocent and deep ly injured woman, whoso at oatcat fault was an error of judgment in remaining so long with a man who had forfeited every claim to her rcapeat, and had outraged every instinct of her womanly nature. Speeches were made hi support of the resolutions by Mrs. Croley, .''Irs. Tappan, Mrs. Patton, Mrs. IJarr, Mrs. Demorest, and others, and nil united in finding fault with the verdiet of the jure. who, they said, if honest in their belief of MeFarland'a in anity, should have ordered his confinement in lunatic asylum. A resolution was also adopted, expressing admiration of the conduct of Albert D. Richardson in offering marriage to Mrs. M cFai land, and approving the Methodist form of marriage ceremony, which recognises the proper relation existing between husband and wife by the substitution for the word " obey'' the words "you mutually agree.'' It appears from the state of the public mind in New Volk and elsewhere, that the verdict of the jury in the Mc Farland trial was but the beirinnine of the trouble. Abbe 8age has had her say in t e Tribune, and McFarland prnaaisea a full statement of all matters eoniTceted with the affair through the newspapers. Meantime the pnblie appciite for scan 'h 1 and po.'-sip is being gratified, while the newsmen are peeketins a few extra dimes. From BounnON, May 17. Eds. Democrat: Considerable invere N is teinr manifested in regard to the purchase of the T. 15. college grounds and building, by the denomination of Dunkards. We know of no better location for a denominational college than Bourbon, and in-a.-mnch as the building is partially completed, is well arranged for t'ue purpose for which it was intended, 'vc hope the purchase will be made and the httildiug completed, at once. Property ownera and those having an interest in the l'uture welfare of oar town should give liberally of their means, miJ eacooflge the project in every possible way. Ai an item of news, we record tn ' oar justices of the peace hare not resigned. Isn't it queer? I ask 3ou. The great Metropolitan circus is adrertised t show here on Thnrsdsy.
