Sudden Ia:h of m Old Citizen. We arc amin called upon to chronicle the death of mother old and much
j 'ß: ocmcd citizen of Marshal county jTI.AS: N. CllAMPLTN, of Ntrth tOWTlship. His death vrae s sudden, so unexpected, that it has cast an additional "hom over the neighborhood where he had lived so long, and whore he had so ma&V friends. The circumstances of hi? death, as related by the only poison present except Mrs. C., were: Last Monday morning Mr. E. POWERS borr nred a horse of the deceased, and returned it at about 9 o'clock. Just as he arrived with the horse, Champlin came out of the house and told him where to stable the animal ; and after remaining out a few moments, returned into the house, remarking ro his wife that he did not feel very well that he had a griping in his stomach and bowels, lie passed on to his bedroom, and shortly afterwards groans were heard in the direction he had gone, when Mrs. Ciiamplin and Powers went into his room, and found him .strutrlinir in the agonies of death lie breathed his last in a few moments af tcr they came to him. Mr. ChampliN was one of our oldest residents, having settled in this county at I time when the Indians greatly outnumbered the whites. He held, at dif ferent times, the offices of county commissioner, justice of the peace, and other positions of public trust, in all of which he discharged his duties faithfully and honestly. He was a man cf considerable means, j.ccumulated by hard work and careful management. His less will be severely felt in the neighborhood where he has long been considered one of the must energetic and public spirited citizens. The deceased was born in New Haven, Vt.. on the 20th of May. 1804; moved to this county in January, 18M7 ; lived on the farm where he died since Angusl 18, 1837, a period of over 32 jenes. Snow The Democrat to your friends, au I ask them to subscribe. Commissioner's court has been in session the present week, with about the usual an.ount of business to transact. The session rill probably close to-day. Tnr. Marshall County RepmbKcata of last week says The Democrat insinuates" that Wheeler gave a t; certain clergymen'' one hundred dollars lr.st year, and adds that the clergyman referred tfl never had any financial trans actions with WflEELUt, and th. t ho the editor) don't believe Wbului ver gave the money. Now the editor sneaks from authority, and represent he clergyman, (else the editor lies) if he dors, we would merely say Mr. W iL d give one hundred dollars last year to support Rev. Wm LfSK, jr. And this is the u insinnation1 we made last k. Mr. LlT8K knows he gave it, the editor of the RrpntiUeutlk knows it, and there is a sneaking lie out somewhere and we have not told it.
