Scenes or Hobiio. Incidents ör the cAjoleba at Bakbadoes. The New Haren Journal publishes the following extract from a letter written by a gen-
tleman in Barbadoea, to his friend in that city, respecting the ravsges of the cholera on that Island: God forbid that you should erer witness what we have experienced since our departure. The deaths were sr numerous at one time that vehicles of all kinds were used to conrey corpses. The horse .1 1 .K. for J 11.3, dB türj BIG V.HIK.U, .B o.aiii hire in the squares, were very generally used. Six. tight 1 have seen nine cofI fins in one cart, and they were so badly I constructed, that in passing over the Igniter or water courses, they wouid lit erally fall to pieces, and the driver, who was provided for the occasion, would stop an I nail up the coffins in the street, to prevent the bodies from falling out. Mjny. very many, were carried to the grave in a hand cart; many on the people 5 head; and 1 am told that the demand was so very great for coffins, that many persons, particularly children, were carrifd by their parents merely wrapped in tarred sheets. You may haTe h.nrd of ths "Dead Cart," I have seen it the first time was one evening in the bay. A gentleman aud myself were walking up to the garrison. Just as we came up to it, it had stopped opposite one of those alleys leading to the beach, the drier, a hideous looking negro looking down the alley, fchouled out 'Got any down there ?' The nearoes were afraid to touch a dead bodv. even ol their relations, and too frequently the drirt-r had to attach a rope to the cofin, end drag it into the can the bsl way they could. Fro n an early age, I was taught self-reliance. and have always endeavored to loo things straight in the face, but I must confers that I never before experienced so much difficulty in doing it. Lp to this lime. I bflieve we hare lost from cholera, some IS. 000. or one eighth of the popu!atian; and even now. I believe the deaths throughout the Island average ful'.y 100 per dy. I never heard of the cholera proving fatal so iquick as it has here. Jus: imagine a man apparently in perfect health at any rate walking about aud not complaining at 1 P. M. , and yet he shall be in his gve at 6 1. M., in five short hours; and I beliere there have ben many ßueh cases.
