The name of the thief is Richard Eno. He is th mn who son years ogo, by stratagem, locked up the Sheriff of Fulton Co in his stead, carrying off the key. We learn that subsequently he was tried in Berrien county Michigan, for some misdemeanor, and was sentenced to the penitentiary for ten years, and that when on Ihe way to prison he escaped from the sheriff. We team that the Sheriff of Ber rien county is here now awaiting his arrival. Very many, undoubtedly, beieive Mr. W. was a very disinterested man full of the milk of human kindness yearning for the good of the rising generation and anxious only that the teaching of the "young ideas how to shoot" miht be from the best kind of school books and fell in readily with his commendations. The fact that Mr. W, was then paid for his services by an eastern publishing house, destroys very much of lhe credit for philanthropy which people accorded lo him. Taking all these facts into considerationputting them together, and putting alougside of them another fact, viz: that Mr. Witter is now addressing Utters, through the agency of the auditors of the several Counties to the Township Trustees, probably to induce them to resist the decision of the State Board and it may not be unkind to conclude that the New Yoik publishing house, through its got. The results which I hat e described seem to me to point to ti.e possibility of arresting this loss, llow far the plan sug gesled may be practicable or applicable upon a large scale, mr present very pressing and numerous engagements have hitherto prevented me from ascertaining.
