The father aged about 66 years, had bean ill for several weeks, and the daughter had been samswhat afflicted with fever and ague, but on the evening previous to their death, she visited a neighbor's house, and appeared is well as usu&l. They two being the only msrnbets of the family, and then bsing no one of the neighbors present, tha cir-cum-lances attending their deat h remains, to some extent, unknown, and the jury rsxe left to infer from their examination of the bodias, and the condition of the deceased befoie their death, th it iulurs.1 rausos alone had contributed to the result. "About 12 o'clock, last night, tha city was illumed with the glsrocfkre. which cccured anions the frame buildings between the alley crossing Second tr:et by Dr. Holcomke's office and ihe Courier office building. The livery stable of M'Cubbia and the frames adjoining it, were entirely consumed, together with a good deal of materials for manufacturing carriages, wheat fins, and car trimmings, the latter belong to Vim. Clough. The horses in the livery stable were with difficulty saved. Loss about SG.000; 259 only insured. Thi fire :s supposed to havo been the work of an incendiary." i'ntrujtirs Fire ia Cincinnati Ten Bciines Rousix Dfitrayed. The Cincinnati Enquirer of Sunday morning contains the following particulars of a fire which occurred in that city tha night previous: "About half past six o'clock last night, tke immense steam bakery belonging to Robert Getty, on the east side of Sycamore street, and adjoining warehouses, between Front and Columbia streets, on Ilium alley in the rear, caught fire from one of the cake ovens iu the second story. Ths flames spread with great rapid ity, demolishing tha bakery and warehouse, five btoriei iu height, before the arrival of the steam fire engine and other opptratus. The wind blowing in a westwardly direction, it soon spread to the xtensive wholesale liquor establishment of Wilshire, Bristol. 6c Co., fronting on Srcaiao.e tret, and extending hick to tha alley. Mr. Jno. M. Wadt, book-keep er for the home, succeeded li saving the bonks and valuable papers from the safe. A little of their stock was taken, hut their loss is estimated at about 835,000 nd warehouses 'next The two stores a adjoining on the south, occupied by Mr. Robert Getty, wer likewite destroyed, together with the principal part of the stock, consisting of breadstutTs of every description, aid a large quantity of four. Mr. G. had yesterday purchased an addi tional supply of thre hundred barrels, which were likewise destroyed. His loss on stock and machinery is estimated at fcl5 000. Next adjoining on the south, is the liquor etor of N. H. & J, H. Davis. A portion of th stock was saved. They stimate their loss at from $10.000 to $12.000. with about -35-000 insurance. Adjoining on the south is tha provision store of George N, Davis, which was hssvily stocked. His loss will not fall
far short of $20.000. Insured for S10.000. This, together with th building occupied by Getty, and Wilshire. Bristol, &Co., wer burned (5 theground. together 'with several. large brick warehouses in the reai, leaving nothiugstauding but the brick walls. The upper story of the provision store of N. M. Floyer, adjoining and next south of Davis', was much damaged. Ht3 loss
is esumatea at not less lhaa $5,000. The brick building occupied by Wm. Walker, as a resiaurat, waa considerably damaged in the rsar and upper story by hre and watar. His loss will probably amount to $500. A brick warehouse occupied by John Swasey &Co., on Baum allay, in the rear of Sycamore street, was likewise emiroly destroyed. It was filled with choice and valuable stares. We hive not ascertained their less, but learn it will be 'ry heavy. Thair rniiti store, fronting on Sycamore, escaped the conflagration. Shoenherger'i, Patterson's, end Worthington cc Ca. 'e, store aud warehouses on Baum and Cloon alleys which were also sauch damages'. The property occupiad by Wilshire. Bristol & Co., ws understanl, is uwtifd by Chas. Hartshorn. Ths warehouses and steambakcry of Robert Getty werr formerly owned by Mr. Samuel Cloon, Sr., who erected and occupied th. premises for & quarter of a cf ntury. The bakery was one of he largest and most complete Q iv.ä Union. Wa are informed that he hru partially disposed of his property to Mr. Noris, but that there was no insurance on the stores fronting on Sycamora. The loss on tha stores, together with tha bakery in tha rear, may be set down at about 630, 0C0. It was impossible for us t ascertain correctly the amount of insurance last night, but understand that th Dslaware ! Insuraace Company will losa about 820,000. Only about one-third of ths property destroyed was insured. Tha flame swept across Sycamore straet, and the flying sparks and ciniers fell at a distsncs of several squares. Pike's extensive liquor establishment and other buildings on the east side of ths street caught lire siveral timss. but wers saved by the untiring exsrtions of the gtüaat firemen. Mes3rs. Mitchell Sc Rammelsherg had one hundred and fifty dozn chiirs stored in one of the warehouses adjoining thsir factory. They rstimate '.heir loss at $2.000; partially insured. While the flames were spreading rapidly, and all was excitement and confusion, we understand that tha Messrs. Davis, liquor dealers, contracted for another business house, Main-strest, This is characteristic of Cincinnati mercantile enterprise. An immsuEe quantity of liquor flowed along the gutter from Wilshire, Bristol i Ca.'i, and Davis, liquor stores, and caught fire, pre?enting a beautiful sight, as it burned and blazed forth, as it swept to the water's edge on the levee. Thi firemen battled manfully with the fiery element, and are d.seving of great credit, lais is the meat extensive wa have witnessad in this c;ty for eral years. The loss on buildings stock will not fall far short of 000,000. fire sevand 31. Terrible Fike in LorisvitLt. The Journal office wa insured to the amount of 810.000 sufficient to cover all loss. Madi$on JJanntr, Oct. 2?. Men, to Arras! A new system of tactics, it is reported, is about to be adopted by the "strou" minded" women, lor the accomplishment of the purpose at which they are aiming. Moral suasion has been tried by them without succses. Conventions have been held, speech made, resolutions drawn up all without avail no feeling having been excited by tbfEe demonstrations, eave that of ridicule. A few of th more masculine of these dubious specimens of femininity have advocated th fliugingaside entirely of the garmants which discriminate the softer sex. and the donning of the habiliments now considered peculiar to virility. After having undergone this transformation of costume, tha next step, according to this plan, was to be tha shouldering of muskets, and the orj gmization of battallions of down trodden women, who were then to revolt against their cruel oppressors, emb'.aien the motto, "Freedom from tyranny," ou their banners, and wage a physical warfare against the opposite gender, that should terminate only by a recognition of their inalienable "&"t bold property. vote, chew tobacco. &c, &c, This plan, howwver, ingenious as it was, did not meet with the approbation of the larger pottian of the advocates of "woman's rights;".and consequently hss been discarded much to the relief of those against whom these warlike efforts were to . In view of ths disastrous remits that would inevitably ensue from the success cf this conspiracy, a resort by the male sex to arum should immediately be had, which would, we think, if außiciently persevered in, render the plot nugatory in effect.
