BEEOKINEIDGE PLATFORM. Platform of the National Democratic Party, The Candidates. For President John C. Breckinridge, of Ken-

Joseph Lane, of Or

egon..-, Resolved, That the platform nilopled by the Democratic parly at Cincinnati lie aUirnied, with the following explanatory resolutions: ' 1. - That. the Government of a Territory 'organized by an act of Congress is provisional and

temporary, and during its existence all citizens of the United States have an equal right to Settle" with their property in the territory, without tlieir rights, either in person or property, being destroyed by Congressional or Territorial legislalion.' 2. That it is the duty of the Federal Government, in all the departments, w hen necessary, to protect the rights of persons and property in the Territories, and wherever else its constitutional .authority extends. 3. That when the settlers in a Territory, having an adequate population, form a State Constitution, the right of sovereignty commences, and being consummated by their admission into the Union, they stand on an 'equality' with the people of other States, and a State thus organized ought to be admitted into the Federal Union, whether its Constitution prohibits or recognizes the institution of slavery. 4. That the Democratic party are in favor of the acquisition of Cuba, on such terms as shall be honorable to ourselves and just to Spain, at the earliest practicable moment. 5. That tlx! enactments of State Legislatures' ' to defeat the faithful execution of the Fugitive ' Slave Law are hostile in character, subversive of the Constitution, and revolutionary in their effect. " V 6.. That the j Democracy of. the United States recognize it as an imperative duly of the Government to protect the naturalized citizen in all his rights, whether at home or in foreign lands, to the same extent as its native born citizens. . Whereus, One of the greatest necessities of the age, in a political, commercial, postal, and military point. of view, is a speedy communication I between the Pacilic and Atlantic coasts; there- i

tore be it resolved, 7. That the National Democratic' party do hereby pledge themselves to use every .means in their power 10 secure the passage of some bill, to the extent of their constitutional authority by Congress, for the construction of a railroad to the Pacific Ocean, at the earliest practicable moment.'

for the Presidency and Vice Presidency, A period has arrived in the history of Ihe oid, time-honored Democratic Party, when it becomes the solemn duty of those who love principle more than men, to take counsel of their judgments, rather than personal preferences and prejudices, and stand forth calmly, firmly and fearlessly in defence of

the right. We feel that we are doing this in nailing to our mast-head the colors of BitKCKiNiuDGE and Lan'e, with the platform of principles they have declared in their letters of acceptance, and using all honorable means to insure their election. In ihe language of our candidate for President, let us stand by the " Constitution, and the Ecpiality of the States ! These are symbols of everlasting Union. Let these be the rallying cry of the people. " All persons friendlv to the elecfi nn of

Bkkckiniudge and Lane, are requested to interest themselves in extending the circulation of the GuAitD, as the most eil'ective means of aiding in their election. It will keep its readers posted in all the political news of the day, and its aim is to disseminate correct information and dispel error. Let the Guard have a large circulationit will be a valuable aid in the canvass.
