The Junior class of the Hillsboro high school gave a novel and quite out of the ordinary entertainment on Wednesday morning, April 30, in a breakfast at 6:30, the senior class and teachers being their invited guests. The large home of J. A. Wilt was beautifully decorated with spring flowers and the junior class colors, lavender and white. The dining room was artistic with the senior class flower, carnations, and their colors, pink and green. A bright fire in the fireplace gave a warm and glowing effect to the room. Promptly at 6:30 a. m. the guests arrived and the ladies were presented with breakfast caps of the junior colors, lavender and white, and the men with ties. The two tables in the dining room were laid with covers for eighteen with hand painted place cards.
The junior class has eight members, Kenneth Faulkner, Florence Wood, Ruby Hershbarger, Ethel Frazier, Catherine Williams, Frances Taylor, Napier Wilt and Joe Cooper. Harry Starnes and Miss Ethel Frazier were not able to attend because of sickness, and Charles Cooper was also absent.

Registered delegates will be entertained in the homes of Indianapolis families. Only those delegates who register will be entitled to this entertainment and to various other entertainment features which are being provided. The delegates will enjoy an automobile trip over the city on the afternoon of May IS. The visiting ministers will be entertained at a banquet at Butler College on the evening of the first day. The visiting Sunday School superintendents will be tendered a banquet at the Y. M. C. A. building on Thursday night, and officers of the Christian Endeavor Societies will also enjoy a banquet on the same evening.
Hats in the small shapes for street wear are likewise popular and there’s a host of pretty new effects from the work rooms this week for you to select from.

The Floods at Dayton, Ohio.
Daytou, Ohio, has stood in the shadow of disaster from flood ever since its foundation. No less than six times previous to the present inundation have the rivers which flow through it left their accustomed courses and brought death and destruction of property upon the town. The first of these floods occurred in 1805, the year that Dayton was incorporated as a town. The sixth was in 1898 and the others in the years 1847, 1863, 1866 and 1886.
There are men who argue that living is high, but they might try dying. A living man gets shaved for 10c, but a dead one pays |5 and never kicks. A good kersey overcoat costs $25, but a wooden one costs $i00. A grave digger will plant potatoes for 20c an hour, but for planting you he gets four times as much. A carriage to the theatre costs $2 but one to the cemetery costs $5. A saloon keeper will fill your hide to bursting for 50c, but the emfaalmer gets $12 50 for the same job. Come to think of it there are lots of things left to live for in this world, despite the high prices and contrary weather.

Skinning elephants is an arduous task, and the men at the Hagen beck-Wallace winter quarters at Peru are well acquainted with this fact by this time, as they hare skinned eigut elephants that were drowned in the flood. Tte hides were sold by B. E. Wallace L owner of the shows, to a Newark, N. J . concern that makes fine pocketbooks. The hides of the elephants were taken off whole, and as they weighed 1,100 pounds or more, a team of horses was used to assist iu skinning the animals. The skins are about one inch in thickness. Mr. Wallace received $1,600 for the eight hides.

I. You may go to a custom-tailor and have them “made-to-order.” You have delays; “try-ons;” you don’t know what you’re going to get; and if he’s a cheap tailor—-$25, $30, $40-—you don’t get much.

Twenty-two million cubic yards of earth remain to be excavated on the Panama Canal. The excavation pro ably will be completed before January next. In fact Colonel Goethals, Chief Engineer, in a report to the War Department, last week, expressed the hope that he would bo able to pass a ship through the canal before the close of the present year. The present schedule contemplates admitting the water into the Culebm cut early in October and the completion of one flight of locks at cither end of the canal by the same date. Slides have delayed the completion of the cut a few months.

A "sport” is n person whose conscience hurts him unless he invests all his money where it will bring the least profitable return. A “light wad” is a person—at least we’ll grant he is—whose conscience hurts him unless he invests his money where it will bring more money. Between these two comes the rest of us, who spend a little, save a little without worrying an inordinate amount about the whole business.
