Panthers top Triton 51-31 in home opener

By Steve Sittler Correspondent NAPPANEE - Ben Vincent nailed four threes in the first half and North Wood outscored Triton 30-5 in file first and fourth quarters combined as the Panthers pounded the Trojans 51-31 in the first home game of the season for North Wood. The win improved the Panthers to 2-1 heading into a showdown with unbeaten, Gass 2A #l-ranked Westview on Dec. 6. North Wood 51, Triton 31 To say it was all North Wood from the start would be an understatement, as the Panthers jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes, forcing a Triton timeout. Things got no better for the Trojans after the stoppage as North Wood continued to pour it on behind 6 points off the bench from Jason Borkholder and 5 more from starter Matt Dutkowski. The Panthers ran the lead to 17-0 before a long three at the buzzer by Triton's Keegan Westafer finally knocked the lid off the goal for the Trojans. Despite the huge hole they found themselves in, Triton battled fiercely in the second period behind four three pointers from junior guard Jared Buies. North Wood answered with its own long-range sniper as the sophomore Vincent knocked down three triples, keeping the Panthers in front 34-20 at tire half.

The program will also explore interurban railways that crisscrossed Elkhart County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Mostly used for travel, interurban lines connected towns to other towns in the county and all of Northern Indiana.
