Panther offense shines in victory over Northridge
By Steve Sittler Correspondent NAPPANEE - Bronson Yoder and Nate Newcomer each scored four touchdowns as the Class 4A #2-ranked North Wood Panthers scored on 9 of their 12 possessions in a 63-30 pounding of Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) foe Northridge. Incredibly, the Panthers possessed the ball for just over 12 minutes with all but one of their scoring drives taking five plays or less. The victory improved the Panthers to 6-0 (4-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference) with just three games remaining in the regular season. The Panthers came out sporting gold-numbered 50th anniversary jerseys featuring a Nappanee Bulldogs logo on one sleeve, a Wakarusa Indians logo on the other, and "Black Crunch" on the back and

North Wood took over at their own 35-yard line and five plays later, Newcomer caught a 32-yard TD pass from receiver Tanner Feenstra on a trick play for his first score of the night. Yoder caught a PAT pass from Jaden Miller and the Panthers led 8-0 less than three minutes into the game. The Raiders, easily the best offensive team North Wood has faced this season, answered with a touchdown drive of their own, marching 81 yards in 11 plays, with a 41-yard third-down pass completion from Oliver Eveler (try saying that three times fast) to Aidan Berger the critical play. Elever then hit Josh Beard with a 17-yard TD pass, with Beard stealing the ball away from a Panther defender. Nolan Laughlin tacked on the PAT and it

Tri-County Ambulance Service took home a Business of the Year honor as well. Founded in 1999 by Todd and Lisa Rhoades, Todd had been working for a private ambulance company and saw a need for ambulance services in this region. Building on a foundational promise to Goshen and Elkhart hospitals that he could be on hand in less than 30 minutes, Tri-County was formed. Originally based in Nappanee, TriCounty now has their main office in Wakarusa, and has since added bases in Plymouth and Mishawaka, plus its own dispatch center. NAPPANEE - "Seeing and Savoring Jesus" is the theme Pastor Peter Renton, from the Living Gospel Church in Nappanee, has chosen for the 2018 Spiritual Renewal Services at the Union Center Church of the Brethren on Sunday, September 30. Pastor Renton will preach "Seeing Jesus," based on Isaiah 6:1-8, at the 9 a.m. worship service, and
"Savoring Jesus," based on 1 Thessalonians 2:13 at the 6:30 p.m. service. All are invited to the services. "Isaiah saw Jesus in his glory," Renton said. When we look at Jesus and see him, Renton said, "What kind of response do we have? How do we respond to how he reveals himself?" In "Savoring Jesus," Renton added that he plans to speak about "the importance of the Word of God in our growth." The home text 1 Thessalonians 2:13 encourages us to "receive the Word of God as it is." Pastor Peter Renton grew up north of Chicago and met his wife, Stephanie, while attending Purdue University.
