Obituary
Michael Yoder April 22, 1946 - July 31, 2018 VALPARAISO Michael Yoder, 72, of Valparaiso, died at 11:29 pan. on Tuesday, July 31, at his residence. He was bom on April 22,1946 in Nappanee, to William D. and Mary S. (Miller) Yoder. Survivors include his two sisters, Mary Eicher of Bremen and Rosanna (Duane) Yoder of Shipshewana; brother, Steven (Diane) Yoder of Saginaw, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Edwin, Marvin, Glenn, Earl, and Wayne Yoder; two sisters, Anna Mae Yoder and Clara Feme Gerig. He graduated in 1965 from Nappanee Eastside High School and from Valparaiso University with a law degree. He worked as a lawyer in Valparaiso. Michael served in the Army during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Sobriety checkpoints on the rise in Wa-Nee
ELKHART COUNTY - The Nappanee Police Department is joining about 230 law enforcement agencies across Indiana and thousands nationwide in the 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" mobilization. From mid-August through Labor Day, police will be out in full force arresting impaired drivers. Expect to see increased sobriety checkpoints, roving patrols, and saturation patrols. "Why are we giving drivers a heads up? Because Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' is all about preventing impaired driving crashes, injuries, and deaths," said local law enforcement leaders. "Our officers have zero tolerance for impaired drivers on our roads, and we'll see you before you see us.” A driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrest means going to jail and losing your driver's license. The average DWI cost? About SIO,OOO, including car towing and repairs, attorney fees, fines, court costs, lost time at work, and other hefty expenses. Indiana law enforcement agencies have participated in annual "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" traffic enforcement for more than 20 years. DAILY ACTIVITY REPORT - On July 27, at approximately 8:09 a.m., Larry Mullet, 72, reported an auto theft- in the 72000 block of County Road 11. Sometime between July 26 at 7:30 p.m. and July 27 at 7 a.m., a suspect removed a blue single axle 12 foot trailer with a red 2013 Toro ZX72O zero turning radius lawn mower on it from the driveway. - On July 17, at around 9 p.m., a motor vehicle accident was reported in the 26000 block of County Road 52, near the intersection of County Road 9. It was found that a 14 year old female was the driver, along with a 13 year old female, both of whom were found to be intoxicated. The 14 year old female was charged with felony battery on a police officer, resisting, disorderly conduct, never receiving a license, and illegal consumption of alcoholic beverages. The 13 year old female was charged with illegal consumption of alcoholic beverages. Both juveniles were released to their parents and charges are being sent forward to the Juvenile Prosecutor. - On July 28, at around 3:50 a.m., in the area of County Road 13 and County Road 28, Joshua Hunt was stopped for a traffic infraction and was found to be in possession of marijuana, paraphernalia, and never receiving a license. Brandon Miller was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail for felony resisting with a vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and several traffic violations. - On July 30, at around 3:30 a.m., in the area of County Road 28 east of County Road 13, Kenneth Lasley, 44, and Kimberly Burnell, 35, were stopped for traffic infractions. During the investigation, Kenneth Lasley was found to have a driving status of suspended with a prior conviction and also never receiving a license. Kimberly Burwell was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and obstruction of justice. Both were incarcerated in the Elkhart County Jail. - On July 30, at around 7:15 a.m., Kevin Starr, 25, reported being shot at by an unknown suspect in the area of the 25000

Anthony Faucett was found to be intoxicated and submitted a chemical blood draw, pending further toxicology testing.
